? Helen Claassen, 93, of Whitewater, died July 30 at Presbyterian Manor in Newton.

The service was Aug. 19 at Emmaus Mennonite Church in Whitewater. Burial was at Emmaus Cemetery.

She was born May 20, 1920, to Henry and Katy (Buhler) Voth at Goessel. On Oct. 10, 1940, she was married to Herbert Claassen, who predeceased her.

Survivors include children Jeanette Claassen of Garden City, Cheryl and Don Baker of Tulsa, Okla., and Jocelyn and Randy Shields of Potwin; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren and a sister-in-law, Dora Voth.

? Arnold F. ?Arnie? Franta, 84, of Springfield, Mo., died Aug. 17 at his home.

The funeral is at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 22, at the Holy Family Parish, St. John Nepo?mu?cene Church in Pilsen. Rosary will be at 10 a.m., also at the church.

? Judith A. Hiebert, 70, a cook at Hillsboro Elementary School for 30 years, died Aug. 19 at her home in Hillsboro.

The memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 24, at Marion Christian Church with pastor Carl Helm officiating. A private family burial will be at Marion Cemetery.

She was born Aug. 8, 1943, to Shirley and Hattie (Schmidt) Richards in Marion. In June 1989, she was married to Allen E. Hiebert, who survives.

Other survivors include children Kristine and Larry Goza of Americus and Timothy Janzen of Halstead; step-children David and Rhonda Hiebert of Buhler, Esther Coplen of Harvard, Neb., Ruby McNare of Gordon, Neb., John and Melody Hiebert of Tuttle, Okla., and Rachel and Rob Galey of Chadron, Neb.; and brother Gerald and Patricia Richards of Houston, Texas.

? Paul M. Hiebert, 99, a retired farmer, Guerdon Factory and Hesston Corp. employee, died Aug. 18 at Bethesda Home in Goessel.

A graveside service will be at 2:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 22, at Alexanderwohl Cemetery with a memorial service following at 3:30 p.m. at Alexanderwohl Mennonite Church near Goessel. Pastor Linda Ewert and his grandson, pastor Mike Hiebert, will officiate.

He was born March 18, 1914, to Henry G. and Marie Schmidt Hiebert in rural Goessel. On April 18, 1937, he was married to Sara Janzen, who predeceased him March 18, 1974. On Sept. 11, 1983, he was married to Martha Vogt, who survives.

He also is survived by sons Don and June Hiebert, Norman and Marcia Hiebert and John and Bertha Hiebert; daughters Mary and Larry Lindeman and Bonnie and Sid Ratzlaff, all from the Goessel area; a sister-in-law, Wanda Hiebert of Wichita; 15 grandchildren and 32 great-grandchildren.

? Elva M. Yoder Knepp, 84, of Haven, died Aug. 18 at Golden Years Care Home in Hutchinson.

The service will be at 9 a.m., Aug. 21, at the Eugene Bontrager residence, 8604 S. Obee Road, Haven, with Bishop Floyd Schrock officiating. Burial will be in the Yoder Amish Cemetery at Haven.

She was born Sept. 20, 1928, to Christ C. and Lizzie Yoder at Haven. On May 11, 1950, she was married to Levi E. Knepp, who survives.

Other survivors include children Clayton and Ann Fry of Haven, Maynard and Carol Duerksen of Hillsboro, Louise Bontrager of Hutchinson, Glen and Dorothy Keim of Norwood, Mo., Gerald and Ann Showalter of Hutchinson and Vera and Eugene Bontrager of Haven; sister Alice and Ervin Eash and brother Enos Yoder of Yoder; 22 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren.

? Alvin A. Miller, 73, of Emporia and employed in retail sales, died Aug. 17 at Stor?mont-Vail Hospital in Topeka.

The service will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 22, at Messiah Lutheran Church, 1101 Neosho, Emporia, with pastor Norbert Tegtmeier officiating. Burial will be at Zion Luth?eran Cemetery, southwest of Olpe.

Visitation with family is from 7-8 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 21, at Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home, 605 State St., Emporia.

He was born Dec. 28, 1939, to Albert Henry and Helen Josephine Vogts Miller southwest of Ople. On June 23, 1963, he was married to Glenda Sue Bolte in Durham, who survives.

Other survivors include daughter Pamela Diane Miller of Emporia.

homemaker and lifetime Can?ton-area resident, died Aug. 12 at Pleasant View Home in Inman.

The funeral was 10:30 a.m. Friday, Aug. 16, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Canton; burial was in the church cemetery.

She was born Jan. 13, 1919, to William and Elsie Meyer in Canton. She was predeceased by husbands Walter Schroeder and Arthur Thies.

Her survivors include two sons, Marlin Schroeder and wife Delaine, and James Schroeder and wife Tommye, all of Wichita; two daughters, Gloria and husband Robert Sayre of Bella Vista, Ark., and Linda and husband Chris Schmidt of Burleson, Texas; one sister, Verna and husband Earl Bowers of Hemet, Calif.; five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Memorials have been established with Lutheran Hour Ministries, or the church, in care of Olson?s Mortuary, 139 N. Main, P.O. Box 355, Canton 67428.

? Jane Vajnar, 73, a school teacher, died Aug. 19 at Salem Home in Hillsboro.

The service will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 21, at Durham Baptist Church. Burial will be at Durham Park Cemetery in rural Durham.

She was born Aug. 30, 1939, to Ben and Maggie Lee (Jones) Cook in Carneiro. On Aug. 23, 1970, she was married to Robert Vajnar, who predeceased her in 2003.
