Deaths (April 4, 2018)

◼ LORRAINE HAVLIK, 90, of Marion, former co-owner of Havlik Grocery and Locker Plant in Tampa and later Mainliner Motel in Marion, died March 27, at The Cedars in McPherson.

The Mass of Christian burial is at 10 a.m. April 7 at Holy Family Parish, St. Mark’s Catholic Church in Marion. Rosary is at 7:30 p.m. April 6, at Zeiner Funeral Home, Marion.

Burial is at Marion Cemetery.

She was born Sept. 21, 1927, to Frank and Albina (Ruzicka) Smolik near Pilsen. Her husband, Frank, predeceased her.

Survivors include daughter Linda and husband Dennis Wedel of Canton; four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made in her name to Holy Family Parish, St. Mark’s Catholic Church and sent in care of Zeiner Funeral Home.

◼ RONALD F. “RON” LOEWEN, 70, of Columbia, S.C., died March 14.

A memorial service was March 17 at Eastminster Presbyterian Church with a reception following the service in the adult reception hall.

He was born Dec. 27, 1947, to Wesley and Louise Friesen Loewen at Wichita. His wife, Lisa S. Hutto, survives.

Other survivors include stepdaughters Frances Hayden Hutto, Anne Hollins Hutto and Mary Hayes Hutto; sisters Tamara Loe­wen and Cynthia “Cindy” Loewen.

◼ VIRGINIA LEA NICKEL, 72, died March 1 at Round Rock, Texas.

She was born June 11, 1946, at Brady, Texas. On June 25, 1966, she was married to Leo Nickel, who survives.

Dignity Memorial at Georgetown, Texas, is in charge of arrangements, but no services are scheduled at this time.

◼ ARLO D. SCHMIDT, 87, a farmer, died March 27 at Bethesda Home, Goessel.

A graveside service was March 31 at Alexanderwohl Cemetery with a memorial service at Alexanderwohl Mennonite Church.

He was born April 15, 1930, to Arnold T. and Marie Flaming Schmidt. On Oct. 14, 1954, he was married to Darlene Reimer, who survives.

Other survivors include sons David of Wichita, Rob­bie (Ruth) of Willard, Mo., and Greg (LaDonna) of Newton; brother Orville of Newton and three grandchildren.
