Deaths (April 12, 2017)

• edmah laura pankratz boese, 91, a home­maker, died April 3 at Bethesda Home, Goessel.

A private burial was April 9 at Goessel Mennonite Ceme­tery, and later that day a memorial service took place.

She was born June 22, 1925, in Thomas County, to Jacob and Marie Schmidt Pankratz. In September 1950, she was married to Milton Banman, who predeceased her in September 1952.

On May 10, 1955, she was married to Irvin H. Boese, who survives.

Other survivors include daughters Janell Hawk of Newton and Nancy (Leroy) Schmidt of Hillsboro; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

• christine sue (lies) combs, 65, of Lincolnville, died April 5 at Via Christi Saint Francis of Wichita.

The service was April 8 at St. John Nepomucene Catho­lic Church, Pilsen. Burial was at Pilsen Cemetery.

She was born Sept. 15, 1951, to John and Shirley (Orth) Lies at St. Francis Hospital in Wichita. On Oct. 15, 1971, she was married to Michael James Combs, who survives.

Other survivors include her mother; seven siblings; sons Patrick Combs of Mari­on and Martin (Melissa) Combs of Lincolnville; daugh­ters Jill (Jon) Meier of Hillsboro; Michelle (Tony) Conrad of Paxico; Stephanie Haws and Heather Combs, both of Herington; five grand­daughters and four grand­sons.

• claud e. Cozine, 88, of Canton and retired from Excel Industries in Hesston, died March 28 at Pleasant View Home, Inman.

He was born Oct. 4, 1928, to Claud E. Sr. and Lilly Mae (Wilsey) Cozine at Kansas City.

His wife, Barbara Louise (Gilbert) Cozine, survives.

Other survivors include son Buddy (Jan) Cozine of McPherson; daughters Hope G. LaRose of McPherson, Julia M. (Marshall) Allmond of Wichita, Debra L. (Danny) Hett of Canton and Valerie J. (Jeff) Gayer of Wichita; sister Julie Matzke of Minne­sota; 11 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren.

• velma rachel martin, 95, a homemaker of Marion, died April 7 at St. Luke Living Center, Marion.

The service is at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, April 12, at St. John Nepomucene Cath­o­lic Church at Pilsen. Rosary will be recited at 10 a.m., prior to mass. Burial will be at Pilsen Cemetery.

She was born April 10, 1921, to Albert and Eva Hubert Marcotte at Ver­mil­l­ion, S.D. On April 25, 1942, she was married to Harry Martin, who predeceased her in 1999.

Survivors include sons Phillip of Onega, and John and Albert of Topeka; daugh­ters Colleen Key of Morris, Ala., Cheryl Bryant of Conyers, Ga., Gloria Karhoff of Milton, Iowa, Marilyn Horinek of At­wood, Barbara Roberta of Birmingham, Ala., Virginia Smith of Louisville, Ky., and Norma Horinek of Marion; sister Jennette Rowland of Shawnee and grandchildren.

• lula v. penner, 91, a homemaker, died April 6 at Parkside Home in Hillsboro.

She was born May 30, 1925, to Peter J. and Pauline (Javorsky) Schmidt at Bessie, Okla. On Feb. 20, 1954, she was married to Ed­ward E. Penner, who predeceased her in 2010.

Survivors include sons Robert and Berkeley, both of Oklahoma City, Okla., Darryl of Weather­ford, Okla., Barron of Madison, Wis., and Arlen of Hillsboro; 17 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

The service was April 10 at Hillsboro Mennonite Brethren Church in Hills­boro. Burial was at Hills­boro Mennonite Brethren Church Cemetery.

• Richard e. unrein, 46, of Wichita, served in the U.S. Marine Corp from 1989-96, and died April 9.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 12 at St. Anthony Catholic Church.

Burial will be at Ascen­sion Cemetery.

He was born April 11, 1970, to LeRoy and Leona Unrein. On April 11, 2014, he was married to Kerry Ann, who survives.

Other survivors include stepchildren Kylie and Collin Brown; brothers Bill Unrein (Margie), Tom Unrein, Tony Unrein (Chelsea), John Unrein and James Unrein (Debbie); sisters Teresa Koster (Tim), Ri­ta Orth (Michael) and Barbara Unrein; nieces and nephews and friends around the world.
