Deaths (9-12-18)

◼ Mae Evelyn Frey, 97, Goessel, died Sunday, Aug. 26, 2018 at the Newton Presbyterian Manor.

Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, Sept. 15 at the Tabor Mennonite Church, 891 Chisholm Trail, Newton. Private family inurnment will take place at the Tabor Mennonite Church Cemetery.

A memorial has been established with the Gracie Sue Gleason Educational Fund and the building fund of Tabor Mennonite Church. Contributions may be sent to Broadway Colonial Funeral Home, 120 E. Broadway, Newton, Ks. 67114.

She was born on February 27, 1921 in Goessel, Kansas, the daughter of Abe J. and Bertha Epp Banman. She married John W. Frey on May 26, 1944 at the Alexanderwohl Mennonite Church.

Survivors include her two daughters Bonnie Gleason and husband Dana of Newton and Jenny Walker of Ft. Collins, Colo.; and one brother Edgar Banman of North Newton.

◼ Louise Janzen, age 98, died Friday, August 31, 2018 in Marion.

The funeral was at 11 a.m. Wednesday, September 5, 2018 at the Marion Christian Church, Interment followed at the Marion Cemetery.

She was born October 1, 1919 in Roxbury to Charles and Elizabeth Smith Anderson. In 1939, she was married to W.H. “Bill” Janzen.

She is survived by son Ed Janzen of Fargo, North Dakota; daughters Jean Knoll of Wichita and Donna Linaman of Poulsbo, Washington; Seven grandchildren, sixteen great-granchildren, and one great great-grandchild.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Marion Assisted Living Center or the Marion Christian Church in care of Zeiner Funeral Home, Marion.

◼ Steve W. Kristek, age 79, former Ramona resident, died Saturday, Sept 8, 2018 at his home in Kansas City.

The funeral will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, September 11 at Zeiner Funeral Home in Marion. Interment will be at the Marion Cemetery. A memorial fund has been established with Ascend Hospice in care of the funeral home.

He was born December 28, 1938 in Osage City to Bob and Lena Hatterman Kristek. He married Donna Rappart on April 17, 1960.

He is survived by sons Ronald (Anna) of Lincolnville and Rocky (Maria) of Kansas City, Missouri; a brother Robert (Cheryl) Kristek of Lincolnville; eight grandchildren and seven greatgrandchildren.

◼ Larry A. Meinen, age 67, former Hillsboro resident, died Monday, August 27, 2018 in Wichita.

The Celebration of Life service was held at 2 p.m. on Friday, August 31 at Baker Funeral Home Chapel.

He was born February 26, 1951 in Ulysses to John and JoAnn Meinen. He married RaeLene Schmidt on May 27, 1987.

He is survived by his wife, sons Matthew (Alma) of Houston, Texas and Daine (Kandace) of Overland Park; daughter Nicole of Wichita; siblings Sharon (Deran) Siebert of Hillsboro, Russell Meinen of Arkansas City, Gary (Jeana) Meinen of Manvel, Texas and Lisa Roger of Terlton, Okla.; 5 grandchildren.
