◼ HERBERT “HERB” GUHR, 93, of Hillsboro, died July 3 at Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice in Wichita.

A celebration of life service was at 11 a.m. July 7, at Hillsboro MB Church with pastor Jeremy Matlock and Garvie Schmidt officiating.

He was born Jan. 1, 1926, in Hillsboro to Reinhold and Anna (Wedel) Guhr. On Oct. 5, 1948, he was married to Doris Wiens, who survives.

Other survivors include sons Ron (Janie) Guhr, Bakersfield, Calif., Gary Guhr of Goessel, Glenn Guhr and Shelia Bristow of Tacoma, Wash., Stacey (Nancy) Guhr of Orlando, Fla., Quentin (Chris) Guhr of rural Hillsboro; daughters Barbara Wardell of West Warwick, R.I., Carol Guhr of Bakersfield, Calif.; 10 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

◼ BILLIE M. HUCKRIEDE, 94, of Marion, died July 7 at her home.

Services are being planned for a later date.

She was born Jan. 21, 1924, to Clarence and Mabel (Rosenberger) Cook in Greensburg. On March 28, 1943, she was married to Edison Huckriede, who predeceased her in 1997.

Survivors include sons Steven Huckriede of Gravette, Ark., David (Linda) Huckriede of Grove, Okla., Michael (Beckie) Huckriede of Sunrise Beach, Mo., Robert Huckriede of Marion, Kim (Penny) Huckriede of Duncan, Okla., and Scott of Laurie, Mo.; daughter JoAnn (Carl) Helm of Marion; a sister; 21 grandchildren and numerous great- and great-great grandchildren.

◼ RICHARD LEE NIELSEN, 79, formerly of Herington, died July 5 at the William Newton Hospital in Winfield.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m., Friday, July 13, at the Zeiner Funeral Home-Herington with pastor Clarence Sumner and R. Glenn, an Kansas Department American Legion chaplain, officiating. Interment will follow at the Sunset Hill Cemetery with military honors.

He was born on April 15, 1939, to Acle and Gertrude (Marham) Nielsen.

Survivors include sons Richard Nielsen Jr. (Annie) of Pretty Prairie and Troy Nielsen (Kim) of Kentucky; a daughter, Doris Jacob (Rick) of Winfield; one brother; five sisters; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and his special friend, Joyce McCoy.

◼ VIRGINIA “TILLIE” PHELPS, 96, of Herington, died July 5 at the Legacy of Herington.

Memorial services will be 11 a.m., Saturday, July 14, at the Zeiner Funeral Home of Herington.

She was born Oct. 8, 1921, to Fred and Anna L. (Sauer) Herbel at Herington. She is survived by many nieces and nephews.

Memorials have been designated to Hospice of Dickinson County, which may sent to the Zeiner Funeral Home-Herington Chapel, 404 S. Broadway, Herington, KS 67449-3038.

◼ Louis C. Stika Jr., 92, retired farmer, carpenter, mechanic and U.S. Army veteran of Marion, died June 28 at St. Luke Living Center in Marion.

Services were held at 10 a.m. July 3 with rosary at 9:30 a.m. at Holy Family Parish in Marion. Burial followed at the Marion Cemetery.

He was born June 1, 1926, to Joseph and Mary (Oborny) Stika at rural Marion. On Oct. 17, 1950, he was married to Sarah Fortmeyer, who predeceased him in 2016.

Survivors include two daughters, Rita Tomlinson of Marion and Janet Marler and husband Doug of Marion; a sister, Victoria Smolik of Marion; two grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.

◼ ROBERT EUGENE WILSON, 49, of Marion, mechanic and handyman who worked for Countryside Salvage near Walton, died June 29 in a single car accident in Marion County.

The service was 10 a.m. July 5 at the Valley United Methodist Church in Marion with pastor Martin Holler officiating. The committal service followed at 11 a.m. July 6 at the Oak Hill Cemetery, Mannford, Okla.

He was born Dec. 17, 1968, to Robert and Deliliah Pendergraft Wilson in Tulsa, Okla.
