Deaths (5-23-18)

◼ MERLE BRUNER, 84, a retired diesel mechanic and former city superintendent of Marion, died May 16 at Marion Assisted Living.

The funeral service was at 2 p.m. May 19 at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Marion. Visita­tion was 6-8 p.m. Friday, May 18, at Zeiner Funeral Home, 205 Elm St., Marion. Burial with military honors was at Marion Cemetery following the service.

He was born Aug. 19, 1933, in Hillsboro to Cecil and Vergie (Westerman) Bruner. In 1956 he was married to Nova Bredemeier, who predeceased him.

He is survived by his daughters, Cathy (Rick) Cleeton of Marion and Cristi (Frank) Soyez of Cedar Point; six grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions can be made to the Marion Fire Department and mailed in care of the funeral home.

◼ RHONDA HYMAN, 61, retired city clerk formerly of Smith Center, died May 15 at St. Luke Hospital in Marion.

The family greeted friends from 5-7 p.m. Mon­day, May 21, at the Simmons-Rentschler Mortuary in Smith Center. The family will have a private graveside service at a later date.

Survivors include daughter Jessica Bowman of Hillsboro; a sister, Christina Muhsmann of Exeter, Calif.; a granddaughter, Katelyn Bowman of Hillsboro.

The family has requested memorial contributions be made to Katelyn Bowman Education Fund in care of Simmons-Rentschler Mor­tuary of Smith Center.

◼ DORIS JOAN KUCHAR, 80, a retired hospital dietary manager, died May 13 at her home in Marion.

Memorial services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, May 24, at Hebron Lutheran Church of Burdick with pastors Colleen Teeuwe and Norma Duerksen officiating. Burial will follow at Hebron Lutheran Cemetery of Burdick.

She was born May 9, 1938, in Herington, the daughter and only child of Fred and Florence (McCreath) Hed­strom. She grew up on a farm east of Lincolnville.

She was married to George Kuchar in February 1970; they divorced in 1982.

She is survived by many cousins in Kansas, Texas, Colorado and Oregon.

Memorials have been designated to Hebron Lutheran Church of Bur­dick or Trinity Menno­nite Church of Hillsboro. They may be sent to Zeiner Funeral Home, 404 S. Broad­way, Herington, KS 67449-3038.
