.? CAROL LYND (STARR) BROADSTREET, 72, a retired teacher, of Marion, died Oct. 11 at Newton Medical Center, Newton.

The service was Oct. 18 at Marion Presbyterian Church, 610 E. Lawrence St., Marion.

She was born Jan. 19, 1942, to Robert and Ruth (Wright) Starr at Salisbury, Md. On May 25, 1964, she was married to Delbert Lane Broadstreet, who predeceased her.

Survivors include son Douglas and wife Abbie of Newton; daughter Jennifer and husband Jerry Hess of Marion; brother David Starr of Albany, Ore.; sisters Margaret Rider of Boulder, Colo., Sue Shoop of Tacoma, Wash., Betty Carlson of Savoy, Ill., Kathy Snyder of Albany, Ore., Ellen Smith of Brainerd, Minn., and Ann Torres of Albuquerque, N.M., and five grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Westminster Woods Church Camp and sent in care of Zeiner Funeral Home, P.O. Box 6, Marion, KS 66861.

 

? CHARLES W. PRIDDY, 78, of Halstead, died Oct. 19, at Asbury Park in Newton.

The service will be at 2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 24, at First Mennonite Church, 427 W. Fourth St., Halstead, with pastors Brian Harmon and Scott Berry officiating.

He was born May 30, 1936, to Laurence and Bulah (Rodgers) Priddy in Ripley, Okla. His wife, Wanda Priddy of Newton, survives.

Other survivors include son Kirk Shields-Priddy of Langley, B.C.; daughter Keresa and husband Paul Britton of Halstead; sisters Laura Mae Woodward and Jean Stiemke, all of Moore, Okla., and Melinda Milinkovich of Stillwater, Okla.; seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

? DORIS SHULTZ, 79, died Oct. 17 at Salem Home in Hillsboro.

She was born Oct. 1, 1935, to David and Anna (Friesen) Klassen at rural Lehigh.

Survivors include husband Ken Shultz of Hillsboro; sons Rick and wife Darlene Shultz of Sachse, Texas, Perry and wife Cheryl Shultz of Keller, Texas; daughters Candi and husband Charlie Roberts of Newnan, Ga., and Gretchen McRae of Irving, Texas; sister Bernice Friend; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

The service will be at 10:30 a.m. Oct. 25 at Parkview Mennonite Brethren Church with pastor Ken Shultz officiating.

Burial will be at 1:30 p.m. at Springfield Cemetery rural Hillsboro.

Visitation with family will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at Jost Funeral Home in Hillsboro.

? ROBERTA “HAPPY” A. SLIFER, 92, died Oct. 14, at St. Luke Living Center in Marion.

The service was Oct. 17 at Zeiner Funeral Home, Marion.

Burial was at Marion Cemetery.

She was born Oct. 17, 1921, in New York, N.Y., and at the age of 3, was adopted by Walter and Anna Work of Windom. In 1943, she was married to LeRoy Miller, who predeceased her in 1958. In 1960, she was married to Cecil Slifer, who also predeceased her in 1992.

Survivors include daughter Charlotte and husband William Burton of Newton; 10 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the St. Luke Living Center?s activity fund and sent in care of Zeiner Funeral Home, 205 Elm St., Marion KS 66861, also in charge of arrangements.

 

.? RICHARD W. VARENHORST JR., 70, of Marion, business owner and retired salesman, died Oct. 14.

The service was Oct. 17 at Marion Christian Church, 140 Elm St., Marion.

He was born April 10, 1944, to Richard Wayne Sr. and Dorothy Elizabeth (Miesse) Varenhorst at Wichita. His wife, Pam (Stone) Varenhorst, survives.

Other survivors include son Garrett Varenhorst and daughter Catie and husband Eric Dresser; sisters Janet and husband Chris Killough and Jenny and husband Pete Woods; three aunts; three uncles; six nieces; four nephews and 14 grand-nieces and grand-nephews.
