DEATH: Stephen Reed Frye

 

Stephen Reed Frye, 79, died May 30, 2022, at his home in Peabody, Kansas. He was born on September 6, 1942, in Burlington, Iowa, the son of William and Margaret (Chalupa) Frye.

On January 5, 1964, Stephen was united in marriage to Marta Lorber. She preceded him in death in 2016.

Stephen was proud to serve his country in the United States Marine Corps from 1961-1965. He was employed with the United States Department of Labor-OSHA from 1973-1996. After retiring from there, he became self-employed as a health and safety consultant and a truck driver.

Stephen enjoyed being outdoors: camping, fishing, boating, hunting, grilling, gardening; and just hanging out on his back porch with family, friends, and his loyal companion, Skippy. He was a member of the Peabody United Methodist Church and the Peabody American Legion, where he served for a time as Commander, until he was no longer able to fulfill those duties.

Stephen is survived by his children: Christopher Frye of Hillsboro, Kansas and Dana & Travis Shaw of Durham, Kansas; 6 grandchildren: Emily, Samantha, Adam, Tiffany, Lindsey, & Ciara; and one great-grandchild, Paisley. Also, his brother, Bill Frye of Topeka, Kansas and his sister, Barbara Frye of W. Burlington, Iowa. His sister, Bonnie Van Engen-McCullip, pre- ceded him in death.

Following Stephen’s wishes, cremation will take place. Stephen and Marta’s final resting place will be at Prairie Lawn Cemetery in Peabody, Kansas.

Memorial services are scheduled for June 25, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. at Peabody United Methodist Church in Peabody, Kansas. Memorial donation in Stephens memory have been established for Post #95, Avenue of Flags (American Legion).
