With the ?8 Wonders of Kansas? announced, the Kansas Sampler Foundation is ready to start the search for the 8 Wonders of Kansas Architecture.
KSF, a non-profit organization with headquarters in Inman, bases much of its work to educate the public about Kansas on eight elements of rural culture: architecture, art, commerce, cuisine, customs, geography, history and people.
The ?8 Wonders? will be determined for each of the elements in four-month cycles.
By mid-April, the selection committee will have decided on 24 finalists for architecture and public voting will begin at 8wonders.org. The top eight will be announced at the end of June.
Nomination criteria include any built structure that is (1) accessible to the public, (2) is unique and one-of-a-kind to Kansas or beyond, and (3) possesses a ?wow? factor.
If the nomination is under restoration, there must be pictures of the proposed finished product easily visible to the public. Examples of built structures that could be nominated include churches, barns, courthouses, homes, businesses, theaters, jails, bridges and hotels.
Nominations can be sent to the foundation at 978 Arapaho Road, Inman, KS 67546 or marci@kansassampler.org. Nominations will close the end of March.
