Storytime to begin Sept. 19 & 20

A new session of Storytime at the Hillsboro Public Library will begin Sept. 19 and 20.

The 40-minute sessions include book reading, activities and crafts for 3-year-olds through kindergartners.

Classes are offered from 10:15 to 10:55 a.m. or 1:45 to 2:25 p.m. on Wednesdays and from 10:15 to 10:55 a.m. on Thursdays. There is a limit of 12 children per class. A $3 registration fee for the three-month session is required.

4-H Club of Hillsboro to meet Sept. 9

 

The South Cottonwood 4-H Club of Hillsboro will meet at 7 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 9, in the city building to elect officers, hear project talks and consider judging school.

The club will observe 4-H Sunday in October at the Hillsboro Mennonite Brethren Church. Participants will attend the service and then remain for a potluck meeting as a way to kick off the new 4-H year.

Children from kindergarten through Grade 12 who want to know more about 4-H are welcome to attend the monthly meetings, which last about an hour.

 

Historical items to be displayed Sept. 8

 

The Moundridge Historical Association in partnership with Mark in the Margin and the Faith and Life Bookstore in Newton will have a display on Saturday, Sept. 8 at the book store.

The display will feature artifacts from the Cole House museum as well as greeting cards made by Mark in the Margin.

Dorcas and Dennis Good from Mark in the Margin and representatives from the Moundridge Historical Association will be present to share information and answer questions for visitors during the event.

 

Church to hold Bible study registration

 

Bible Study Fellowship International will hold introductory classes to register for a study of the Gospel of Matthew at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 12 and 19 at the Countryside Covenant Church sanctuary, 940 E. Northview, McPherson.

Women of all ages are invited. The class and materials are free.

A preschool program will be available for children 2 and up during regular sessions. Children can be registered during the introductory classes.

Guided trail rides to begin Sept. 16

 

Maxwell Wildlife Refuge, located six miles north of Canton, invites trail riders to take a guided ride through the Smoky Hills.

Rides are scheduled for Sept. 16, Oct. 14 and Oct. 22. Costs are $30 per person and includes a buffalo lunch. Contact 620-628-4455 for a registration form.

 

Hillsboro library to offer TOT time

 

The Hillsboro Public Library will offer a free, 15-minute TOT Time session for 18-month through 2-year-olds and a parent at 9 a.m. on the first and third Tuesdays of every month.

Mission: Eventually to be held Sept. 22

 

Abilene Parks and Recrea?tion will sponsor Mission: Event?ually at 9 a.m. on Sat?urday, Sept. 22 north of the Abilene Community Center, 1020 N.W. eighth.

Activities will include water balloon dodgeball, blindfold driving, shucking corn and a mud relay. Awards will be given.

Participants should be at least 16-years-old. The event costs $15 for teams of two. Registration deadline is Sept. 12.

Country Stitchers
to meet Sept. 10

 

The Country Stitchers Quilt Guild will meet at 7:30 p.m. on Sept. 10 at the United Methodist Church in Hillsboro.

The new year will start with a Trunk Show by Trudy Barker of Chapman. Attendees should also bring mystery quilts for showing.

 

Compassionate Families to meet

 

Compassionate Families of Marion County, formerly known as Compassionate Friends, will meet at 7:30 p.m. on Sept. 10 at the home of Bill and Debbi Darrow, 225 Locust St., Marion.

Bring pictures or a scrapbook of your child to share.

MOPs to hold first meeting Sept. 11

 

Mothers of Preschoolers will hold their first meeting from 9 to 11:15 a.m. on Sept. 11 at Parkview Mennonite Brethren Church in Hillsboro.

Enjoy fellowship and food. Childcare is provided. For moms who have never attended, the first meeting is free.
