Crop Walk 2007 to be held Oct. 7

 

Crop Walk 2007 will take place at 2 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 7 at the Marion County Lake.

The churches of Marion and Hillsboro are working together on the project. People are needed both to walk and to support the walkers through donations.

Of the funds raised, 25 percent will serve families at the Marion County Food Bank.

Photo competition to be held in Hays

 

The Hays Arts Council will hold the 24th annual Five-State Photography competition and exhibition in November.

Entries will be accepted from Kansas, Colorado, Nebraska, Missouri and Oklahoma. Entry deadline is Wednesday, Nov. 7.

Cash awards totaling $1,500 will be awarded between three categories: Nature, people and open.

Annual Taste of Newton, Oct. 4

 

The 21st annual Taste of Newton will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 4, in downtown Newton.

The event will feature over 60 food vendors and two stages of live entertainment.

Chat and Dine to be held Oct. 6

 

Current and former Marion County Lake residents will meet Saturday, Oct. 6 for a monthly Chat and Dine Potluck supper at South Lake Hall.

The event will begin at 6 p.m. for hot cider or Delta Tea followed by the potluck.

The program, ?CPR for the Hospital,? will be presented by Judy Reno, board president of St. Luke Hospital.

Free child screening to be held Oct. 9

 

A free child development screening will be held Tuesday, Oct. 9 at the Marion Presbyterian Church.

Appointments for children birth through 5 years will be available from 12:30 to 3 p.m.

The screening will assess development in the cognitive, social, motor and speech/language areas. Vision and hearing will also be checked. This process usually takes about one hour for a child to complete.

P.E.O. Chapter DB celebrates 80th year

 

Fifty-five P.E.O. Chapter DB members and guests celebrated the chapter?s 80th birthday year on Sept. 18 at the Marion Country Club House.

Ruth Viets, chapter historian, gave a review of Chapter DB?s history. Bob Brookens, Keith Collett and Anita Brookens presented ?Musical Memories of the Year Gone By.?

 

Fall Concert on the Lawn to occur Oct. 4

 

The Friends of the Hillsboro Museums will hold the second in a series of Concerts on the Lawn at the William F. Schaeffler House Museum from 5 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 4 in conjunction with the final Farmer?s Market.

A children?s choir from Hillsboro Elementary School, directed by Shirley Baltzer will perform, followed by the Tabor College Brass Ensemble.

The Friends of the Hillsboro Museums will also serve a sloppy joe sandwich meal at the Farmer?s Market.

Country Stitchers to meet Oct. 1

 

The Country Stitchers Quilt Guild will meet at 7:30 p.m. on Oct. 1 at the United Methodist Church.

Attendees are asked to bring the Halloween, black or orange fat quarter for the monthly drawing.
