Memorial Day at Memorial Park
Memorial Day services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, May 28, at Memorial Park in Hillsboro, hosted by the American Legion Hillsboro Post No. 366.
Speaker will be Kansas Sen. Vicki Schmidt of the 20th District.
A $10 steak dinner will follow at noon in the Legion ballroom.
Book signing at Marion library
Karen Ross Epp will share the story of her brother Stan, a fallen Vietnam soldier, at 7 p.m. Tuesday, May 29, at the Marion City Library.
Epp is the author of ?With Love, Stan: A Soldier?s Letters from Vietnam to the World,? a collection of letters and photos she and mother Rose saved.

Local paintings at Hillsboro library
An exhibit of oil and watercolor paintings by local artists from Letty Enns? painting group will be on display through June 10 at Hillsboro Public Library.
Artists featured are Geneva Becker, Delores Funk, Jeanie Funk, Doris Guhr, Edith Rempel, Shirley Reusser, Mary Summers, Billy Kueser, Agnes Bernhardt and Nancy Kaufman.
Peabody dance for Greensburg relief
The Hub, a youth and community center in downtown Peabody, is sponsoring a street dance Saturday, May 26, as a fund-raiser for Greensburg tornado relief.
People of all ages and from Peabody and surrounding communities are invited to join the event, which will start at 5:30 p.m. and continue until 11 p.m.
The dance is free and a dinner consisting of a hamburger, chips, brownie and drink will be available for a donation of $5.
All proceeds from the event will go to support tornado victims in Greensburg.
Doe Ann Hague, chairperson of The Hub board of directors, said the dance was orginally planned for entertainment, but took on additional importance at the suggestion of Brandon Grimes, a Peabody youth.
?The whole community is invited and we would also like to invite our neighboring communities to come to Peabody and enjoy an evening of dancing, food and fun while supporting our fellow Kansans,? Hague said.
Brent Saunders from Scratts Audio is donating the DJ services for the evening. Peabody Market, together with local churches and individuals, are donating the hamburger dinner.

Wildflower tour at county lake
A free tour of wildflowers at Marion County Lake will be offered June 1.
The event will begin at 8:30 a.m. at the Lake Hall, where Vaugh Sothman of Sharp Brothers Seed Co. will present a program about wildflowers and native grasses.
The self-guided tour will include numbered and flagged wildflowers and native plants with an accompanying pamphlet. Natural Resources Conservation Service plant specialists will be present to answer questions.
The tour ends at noon but the area will be available for viewing throughout the day. Refreshments will be furnished by the district. Feel free to bring a picnic lunch.

Book signing, car show in Burns
A day of fun events is planned for Saturday, May 26, in Burns.
A book signing with Steven Farney and Harvey Loy at will be held from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at Sticks & Twigs. Farney?s book is ?Title Towns: Class BB Boys Basketball Champions of Kansas.? He and Coach Loy hope to meet with the 1953 state champion players and others who want to visit.
A car show will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in downtown Burns. Registration is at 9 a.m. at the gazebo. The Viewers? Choice prize is $50 in gas! There is no entry fee, and each person who registers their car(s) or motorcycle(s) will receive $5 in Burns Bucks.
The public is invited to attend.
