Open house for Lorene Jost?s 90th

 

An open house reception will be held from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Friday, March 28 at the Park Village Congregate in honor of Lorene Jost?s 90th birthday.

 

Kindergarten screening, USD 410

 

Hillsboro Unified School District 410 will hold kindergar?ten screening on April 3 and 4.

Children must be 5 years old by Aug. 31 in order to enroll.

Parents who wish to enroll an eligible child should call Hillsboro Elementary School at 947-3981 for more information.

 

Pork chop dinner set for March 29

 

A pork chop dinner will be held from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. March 29 at the Tampa Community Center.

Cost of the pork chop, mashed potato, corn, roll and dessert dinner is $6.50 for adults and $3.50 for children ages 5 to 11. A free movie will be shown following the meal.

Proceeds will go toward the new park fund.

Century Farm apps accepted until May

 

Farmers and ranchers related to owners/operators of the family farm in 1908 or before can qualify for Century Farm status from Kansas Farm Bureau.

The deadline for consideration is May 15. Complete details for qualification and an application can be found at county Farm Bureau offices across Kansas, or at www.kfb.org.

 

Special ed board to meet March 31

 

The Marion County Special Education Cooperative Board of Directors will meet at 7 p.m. Monday, March 31 at the Marion County Special Education Cooperative Conference Room, 302 W. Eighth, Florence.

 

Parkview to sponsor worship seminar

 

Parkview Mennonite Brethren Church in Hillsboro will sponsor a one-day worship seminar from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, April 5 in the church sanctuary.

The seminar is designed for worship team participants. Guest speaker Jonathan Dow, associate executive director of Aldersgate Renewal Ministries of Goodlettsville, Tenn., will explore what it means to be a worshiper and how a heart for God should touch every part of life.

Hillsboro Kiwanis to meet April 1

 

The Hillsboro Kiwanis Club will meet at noon Tuesday, April 1 at the city building. Lunch will be provided by Fat N Sassy BBQ for $7.

Following the meal and a short business meeting, Mike Moran, Hillsboro Elementary School counselor, will speak about his job and the children he works with. He will also focus on the after-school programs he coordinates.

 

Rosella Martin wins Chamber Bunny Hop

 

Rosella Martin of Hillsboro won $100 in Chamber Bucks in the recent Bunny Hop event sponsored by the Hillsboro Chamber of Commerce.

Participating businesses were Quilts and Quiltracks, The Garden Center, Silver Shears, Hillsboro True Value, Thee Bookstore, Little Pleasures, Nancy?s Fashions, Brenda?s Bloomers & Gifts, Quick Flick Radio Shack, Jess? Tresses, Odds N Ends, Ampride, Hillsboro Furniture, Prudent Tour and Hillsboro State Bank.

 

5-K training to be Fit ?n Fitness focus

 

Beginning March 31, the Fit 'n Fitness class will begin ?Train for a 5-K,? specifically, the Emma Creek Classic. The class will run through April 24.

The class will include a daily walking or jogging plan that each participant will take home to complete, instruction in strengthening and endurance-type exercises, core workouts and flexibility routines. Men and women, first-time and veteran-walkers and joggers are welcome to attend.

The class will be held at 5:45 p.m. Mondays and Thursdays at the Elementary School gym. The cost is $35, plus $10 for each additional family member.

Quartet to perform at Parkview March 30

 

A quartet of Parkview Mennonite Brethren Church and Ebenfeld Mennonite Brethren Church members will perform at 7 p.m. March 30 at Parkview. A devotional will be given by Joel Suderman. The public is invited to attend.
