Free Storm Spotter  training March 14

Marion County Fire District #5 is sponsoring free Storm Spotter training at 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 14, at the Lincolnville community building.

Although the class geared toward emergency responders, the public is invited to attend.


Girl Scout cookie sale March 17

The Hillsboro Junior Girl Scout Troop No. 95 is planning a cookie booth sale from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, March 17, at Vogt's Hometown Market in Hillsboro. 

The cookies are $3 per box.  All of the revenue from all cookie sale activities supports the local Girl Scout council where the cookies are sold, including a portion that goes directly to the troop/group selling cookies.

Cookies for sale this year are Trefoils, Do-si-dos, Samoas, All Abouts, Cafe Cookies, Tagalongs, Thin Mints and the new sugar-free Little Brownies.


Tabor prof to speak at Goessel church

Tabor College professor Brian Mills will speak at 10:45 a.m. March 18 at Chisholm Trail Bible Church at 200 N. Poplar in Goessel.

The public is invited to attend.


Blood drive Monday at Goessel church

A blood drive will be held from noon to 6 p.m. Monday, March 19, at Goessel Mennonite Church.

Call 1-800-GIVE-LIFE to make an appointment. Walk-in donors are also welcome.


Bowl for the Cure sponsors needed

Marion Bowling Association leagues are now accepting sponsorships for Bowl for the Cure, a fund-raiser to be held Sunday, April 4, through Friday, April 9.

The event is a Susan B. Coleman foundation fund-raiser for finding a cure for breast cancer.  To sponsor a bowler or a team, contact John Brewer at 620-382-2312 or Gloria Seifert at 620-382-2027.


Peabody church cancels soup event

The soup supper planned for March 17 at Peabody Baptist Church has been cancelled.


Hymn sing planned for March 18

Jonah Kliewer will lead a community hymn sing at 7 p.m. Sunday, March 18, at the Wohlgemuth Music Education Center at Tabor College.

Songs will reflect on Lent, Palm Sunday, Good Friday and Easter.


Computer classes at Peabody library

Peabody Library is offering free individualized computer training from March 19 through April 30. 

Topics to choose from are “Windows XP—Basics to Advanced,” “You’ve Got Mail!—Set Up Free E-mail Accounts,” “Surf the Net—Access Resources for Pleasure or Purpose” and “Word ABCs—Word Processing Made Easy.”

To set up a time, call the library at 983-2502. Hours are 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. Monday to Friday2 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday and 9 a.m. to noon Saturday. 

A computer instructor will call back to set up a convenient daytime, evening or weekend time to meet at the library.
