Lincolnville meeting June 21 about park

A public meeting will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, June 21, at Lincolnville City Hall to discuss improvements to the Lincolnville ball diamond and park.

Red Cross to hold blood drive June 22

An American Red Cross blood drive will be held from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. Friday, June 22, at the American Legion at 405 S. Floral in Hillsboro.

Walk-ins are welcome, or make an appointment by calling 1-800-GIVELIFE.

Each person who comes to donate will receive a free Red Cross T-shirt.

Afternoon movie at Marion library

A movie will be shown at 2 p.m. Friday, June 22, at the Marion City Library.

Popcorn and drinks will be provided. Children under 6 must be accompanied by an adult.

Bring pillows, as seating is on the floor.

Reception June 23 for Elda Ebel?s 90th

Elda Ebel Pic.jpg Elda Ebel will celebrate her 90th birthday with a reception from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, June 23, at her home, 205 South Adams, Hillsboro.

All friends and relatives are invited to attend.

The reception will be hosted by her children, Donald and Peggy Ebel of Arvada, Colo., Dennis Ebel of Chugwater, Wy., and Debra and Rick Eccli of Cheyenne, Wy.

She was born June 20, 1917, on a farm west of Hillsboro, one of eight siblings born to Gustov and Martha Matz. In October 1940, she married Walter R. Ebel. In 1949 they purchased a wheat farm in Chugwater, where they spent their summers for 38 years.

She requests no gifts.

Worship service at Cottonwood Point

The public is invited to attend a worship service at 9 a.m. June 24 at the Marion Reservoir?s Cottonwood Point with Our Savior and Zion Lutheran churches.

Just follow the signs to the worship area.

Newton AIM team in Burns June 24

First Mennonite Church of Burns will host an evening with the Newton AIM team at 7 p.m. Sunday, June 24.

The team of teenagers presents Christian truths through mime and music. A freewill offering will be taken.

Victorian picnic at Maxwell refuge

A Victorian Era picnic will be held at 4 p.m. Sunday, June 24, at Maxwell Wildlife Refuge, located six miles north of Canton.

A guided tour will include history, wildflowers and buffalo, followed by a picnic-basket dinner and homemade ice cream under the catalpa trees.

Dinner is by Three Sisters Victorian Tea & Treasures of Canton. Period attire is optional.

Cost is $18 for adults and $15 for kids under 12. For reservations, call 620-628-4455.

Wildflower program at Marion library

 

The Marion City Library, in conjunction with the Flint Hills Photography display, will host a Kansas wildflower program by Gary Schuler with a catered lunch from noon to 1 p.m. Wednesday, June 27.

Cost of the lunch is $3, which is payable that day.

Reservations are required and can be made by calling the library at 620-382-2442.

Redneck Run set for July 4 in Ramona

The two-mile Redneck Fun Run and Walk will be a new attraction at Ramona?s annual Fourth of July celebration.

The race begins at 8 a.m. July 4 in front of Cousin?s Corner Bed & Breakfast, Fourth and D in Ramona.

Prizes will be awarded for the winners in each age division. Prizes will also be given for participants that dress the most ?redneck.?

The registration fee is $10 and includes a ?Redneck Run? T-shirt. Registrations must be received by Monday, June 25, if participants want to have their shirt for the run.

Send your $10 registration fee, along with name, address, phone, age, and shirt size to ?Redneck Run,? 506 E. First, Ramona, KS 67475.

Shirt sizes are: YOUTH small (6-8), medium (10-12), large (14-16); ADULT small, medium, large, XL, 2XL, 3XL, 4XL.

Runners can also register the day of the event; however, registration increases to $13, and the shirt will be mailed within two weeks.

A farm-style Biscuit and Gravy Breakfast will be offered from 8 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. July 4 at the Ramona Senior Center on the corner of Third and D streets.

Later in the day other sports competitions will be held in the park: horseshoes ($5/player) at 2 p.m. and three-on-three basketball ($12/team) at 3 p.m. 

Events are sponsored by the City of Ramona, and proceeds from both events will go toward improvements in the City Park. The Redneck Run coordinators are Byron and Julie Noeth, 965-2249.
