Lions clubs to serve SightFirst II supper

 

The Hillsboro Leo Club, Evening Lions Club and Noon Lions Club will serve a fund-raiser meal from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday, June 14, at the Farmers? Market outside the Schaeffler House in Hillsboro.

The meal will benefit the Lions Campaign SightFirst II, a program conducted by the Lions Clubs International Foundation to raise $150 million to reduce preventable and reversable blindness and restore eyesight to millions.

Campaign SightFirst I raised $143 million in 1990 to support catacract surgeries and provide treatment for river blindness. SightFirstII will continue these projects and add support for pediatric eye care centers and expansion of eye hospitals and clinics.

 

Afternoon movie at Marion library

 

A movie will be shown at 2 p.m. Friday, June 15, at the Marion City Library.

Popcorn and drinks will be provided. Children under 6 must be accompanied by an adult.

Bring pillows, as seating is on the floor.

Movie matinee at Hillsboro library

 

The Hillsboro Public Library will hold its weekly summer ?movie matinee? at 3 p.m. Friday, June 15, in the children's area. 

Children are asked to bring pillows to sit on during the movie. 

The movie this week is about a rookie racecar living life in the fast lane. He becomes stranded in a small, forgotten town on Route 66 on his way to the most important race in his life.

Family movie night at Marion library

 

A family movie night will be held at 9 p.m. Friday, June 15, on the Marion City Library lawn.

The PG-rated movie will be about a man who is hired as a museum night watchman and soon discovers that all the exhibits come to life after sunset.

Bring your own blankets, lawn chairs, bug spray and refreshments.

Reading program at Marion library

 

The Marion City Library?s ?Get a Clue!? summer reading program for kids who have completed kindergarten through kids who have completed eighth grade will run from June 18 through July 13.

Program include reading books from the library and keeping track of books or pages read to receive prizes. Preschool-age children can receive Casey?s pizza coupons by having someone read 10 books to them.

Storytime session for kids age 306 will be held from 10 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. Fridays starting June 22. Preregistration is required.

A summer reading program party will be held at 7 p.m. July 13 in the Marion City Auditorium. Rob Holladay will perform a program of storytelling, magic and music. The public is invited to attend.

American Legion supper June 19

 

American Legion Post No. 366 members are invited to bring a favorite salad and its recipe for supper at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 19, in the Legion ballroom.

A meeting will follow.

 

Red Cross to hold blood drive June 22

 

An American Red Cross blood drive will be held from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. Friday, June 22, at the American Legion at 405 S. Floral in Hillsboro.

Walk-ins are welcome, or make an appointment by calling 1-800-GIVELIFE.

Each person who comes to donate will receive a free Red Cross T-shirt.

 

Lincolnville meeting June 21 about park

 

A public meeting will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, June 21, at Lincolnville City Hall to discuss improvements to the Lincolnville ball diamond and park.

?Learning Tree? at June 15 book group

 

The Hillsboro Public Library book discussion group will meet at 9 a.m. Friday, June 15, in the city building meeting room.

The group will discuss the book ?The Learning Tree? by Gordon Parks. It is not necessary to have read the book in order to attend.
