Aulne UMC to host supper, auction

 

The Aulne United Methodist Church will host a basket supper and auction Aug. 1 in the fellowship hall.

The covered dish meal will begin at 6 p.m., followed by the auction at 7 p.m. Lyle Leppke will be the auctioneer for the evening. Lots of interesting items will be available for bidding, according to organizers.

Money raised from the auction will be used for the Aulne UMC?s commitment pledge for the ?Bridges to the Future? campaign of the Kansas West Conference. Money collected from the campaign will be used for camping, campus ministry and church growth and development in the Kansas West Conferece.

The public is invited to attend the meal and auction.

Hotdogs, cookies on Lunch Bunch menu

 

Children and youth of the Hillsboro area are invited to enjoy a free meal and activities at this week?s Lunch Bunch on Wednesday, July 30.

The menu will be hotdogs, cookies ?and more.?

Lunch Bunch, sponsored for the second year by Main Street Ministries, is from noon to 1 p.m. every Wednesday through the first week of August at the MSM campus at Main and D streets, Hillsboro.

Child-care providers are welcomed to participate.

 

Hett family reunion set for Aug. 9, 10

 

The 90th annual Hett reunion will be held the weekend of Aug. 9 and 10.

Family members are invited to a picnic potluck at 7 p.m. Saturday, followed by a campout, at the Dave Hett farm, 13⁄4 mile south of Aulne.

Please bring your own camping gear, lawn chairs or blankets to sit on.

The family is planning a church service for 9 a.m. Sunday at the campsite.

Sunday?s potluck meal will be held at 12:30 p.m. at the Marion County Lake Hall.

Hamm family plans Aug. 10 gathering

 

The Hamm family reunion will be Sunday Aug. 10 at the Marion County Lake Hall.

The hall is reserved from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., and the meal will be a basket dinner. Drink will be provided. Bring your own table service.

 

Lunch to be served after parade Aug. 2

 

The Goessel Senior Center will serve a lunch of sandwiches, borscht and pie Saturday, Aug. 2, at the Senior Center after the Threshing Days parade.

 

Mid-point weigh-in Aug. 5 and 7

 

Mid-point weigh-ins for participants in the Biggest Loser contest will be Aug. 5 and 7 at Greenhaw Pharmacy. To make an appointment call 620-947-3784.

 

Kinning to speak

at Kiwanis meeting

 

Hillsboro Police Chief Dan Kinning will be the featured speaker when the Hillsboro Kiwanis Club meets at noon Tuesday, Aug. 5, at the city building.

A short business meeting will follow the $6 meal provided by Vogt Hometown Market, then Kinning will talk about a variety issues that law enforcement officers deal with in their daily work.

Anyone who is not a Kiwanian but is interested in attending the meeting should call Jayson Hanschu at 947-5686 so meal and seating arrangements can be made.

 

Richard Bechard to speak at CHS Aug. 14

 

Richard Bechard will present ?Champions of Character? at 1 p.m. Aug. 14 at Centre High School.

All students planning to participate in an extracurricular activity at CHS need to attend the presentation. Parents are encouraged to attend a presentation at 6 p.m. Aug. 14 at the high school.

 

Farm, ranch camp set for Aug. 6, 8

 

A Farm and Ranch Day Camp will be held in Hillsboro and Centre during the first full week of August.

The focus of both camps will be on livestock agriculture, crop agriculture and agriculture business. Snacks will be provided.

Youth who have completed second grade are invited to participate. Registration is required by Aug. 4.

The Hillsboro camp, planned and sponsored by the Marion County Farm Bureau, Hillsboro Recreation Commission, Marion County K-State Research and Extension and Marion County Conservation District, will take place from 1:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Aug. 6 in the Hillsboro City Building east room.

The Centre camp, planned and sponsored by Marion County Farm Bureau, Centre School District, Marion County K-State Research and Extension and Marion County Conserva-tion District, will take place from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Aug. 8 at Centre School.

Chat, Dine to hold Bingo night Aug. 2

 

Chat and Dine Bingo night will be held at 6:30 p.m. Aug. 2 at South Lake Hall.

All lake residents and families past and present are invited to attend.

Attendees are asked to bring a covered dish and table service for the meal, and a wrapped white elephant gift for Bingo prizes.

 

Peabody community dinner to be Aug. 10

 

The Doyle Valley Farmers Market in Peabody will host a community dinner at 6 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 10 in Santa Fe Park, located at the south end of Walnut Street.

The menu will feature smoked pork chops, buttered potatoes with parsley, summer dressing, sliced tomatoes, fire-and-ice tomatoes, zwieback and homemade ice cream.

To avoid waste or running out of food items, all tickets need to be purchased by Aug. 4. Tickets are $9, and can be purchased at any vendor?s table at the Farmer?s Market Aug. 2.

Model airplanes to be displayed Aug. 1

 

A model airplane exhibit, sponsored by Jim Lehrman of Goessel, and other local enthusiasts, will be open to the public beginning Aug. 1.

The display will be located in the old Lehrman Oil Co. building on Goessel?s Main Street.
