Local theater group to meet Aug. 9

 

The meeting of the Marion County Community Theatre Co. will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 9, in the Marion Municipal Building.

Anyone from the county who wishes to join this group is welcome to come to the meeting.

Area youth attend N.C. conference

 

Youth from the Hillsboro United Methodist Church were among 7,000 who attended an international youth conference in Greensboro, N.C.

The SPLAT Conference?acronym for Seek, Pray, Learn, Act, Teach?met for five days of worship, workshops and other activities.

Area youth who attended include Justin Wodke, Jacob Edwards, Jared and Amber King, David Ratzloff, Heather and Rachelle Goldsby, Alex and Meghan Jost, Kelli Janzen, Jessica and Jenesa Klose, Chris Couts, Lora Andrews, Shelby Koons and Jet Skiles.

Sponsors who attended include Shawn Batterton, Eileen Butler, Kathy Decker, and Rickey and Sonya Roberts.

 

Lucilla Funk celebrates 85th

 

The family of Lucilla Funk requests a card shower for her 85th birthday July 25.

Cards may be sent to her at 506 W. Grand, Apt. 1C, Hillsboro, KS 67063.

 

Veterans? rep to be in Marion Aug. 7

 

Ken Morris, veterans? service representative for the Kansas Commission on Veterans? Affairs, is scheduled for 1 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 7, at the Senior Citizen Center at 309 S. Third St. in Marion.

In an effort to better serve all veterans, widows and dependents, call 620-342-3347 ahead of time to make sure all files and information are readily available.

Because Morris is leaving the Emporia VA office after next month, no rep will be available for itinerary purposes until further notice.

Morris said he is pleased to have assisted veterans and family members in their time and need and extends his regards to all he has met along the way.
