Pizza, calzones on Lunch Bunch menu
Children and youth of the Hillsboro area are invited to enjoy a free meal and activities at this week?s Lunch Bunch on Wednesday, July 23.
The menu will be pizza, calzones and watermelon.
Lunch Bunch, sponsored for the second year by Main Street Ministries, is from noon to 1 p.m. every Wednesday through the first week of August at the MSM campus at Main and D streets, Hillsboro.
Child-care providers are welcomed to participate.
Museum to offer antiques appaisal
Participants are invited to bring antique and vintage items for examination and informal appraisal by collectors, auctioneers and dealers at a fundraiser sponsored by the Harvey County Historical Museum in Newton.
?Trash or Treasure Antique Appraisals? is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 9, at the museum?s location at 203 N. Main.
In addition to examining general antiques, specific areas of interest include postcards, marbles, glassware, textiles, fine art, firearms (World War II and before only), domestic coins and currency and tools.
Furniture and other large objects will not be included in the event.
Participants will purchase a ticket for each item or small grouping of items for $7 or $5 for members of the museum. For example, a group of three marbles is considered one item.
Up to three tickets may be purchased at one time, allowing the participant to have three items evaluated during each ?turn in line.?
Additional tickets may be purchased by starting the process again, which may require additional waiting.
Harvey County Historical Museum is not accessible to individuals using wheelchairs or other walking aides. For accommodations, contact Debra Hiebert or Carole Malin at 316-283-2221 by 4 p.m., Friday, Aug. 8.
The museum will be closed to regular visitors and researchers Aug. 9 to host this fundraiser.
Aulne UMC to host supper, auction
The Aulne United Methodist Church will host a basket supper and auction Aug. 1 in the fellowship hall.
The covered dish meal will begin at 6 p.m., followed by the auction at 7 p.m. Lyle Leppke will be the auctioneer for the evening. Lots of interesting items will be available for bidding, according to organizers.
Money raised from the auction will be used for the Aulne UMC?s commitment pledge for the ?Bridges to the Future? campaign of the Kansas West Conference. Money collected from the campaign will be used for camping, campus ministry and church growth and development in the Kansas West Conferece.
The public is invited to attend the meal and auction.
HHS alum pursues advanced degrees
Noah D. Lelek, a 1999 graduate of Hillsboro High School, will begin working toward a doctorate in theatre at the University of Missouri–Columbia in August.
At MU, Lelek will be a graduate teacher/research assistant in the Department of Theatre.
He graduated in May from Missouri State University with a master?s of arts degree in theatre.
Lelek is the son of Dan and Nancy Kin of rural Peabody and Wayne and Jonette Lelek of Lewistown, Mont.
2008 Relay for Life set for Aug. 1, 2
Plans are being made for the 2008 Relay For Life event, which is being held Aug. 1 and 2 at Marion High School stadium.
A total of 22 teams have registered with 251 walkers planning to participate.
Donations are being accepted. Luminaria are available for a $10 donation and may be dedicated in memory of a cancer victim or in honor of a cancer survivor.
People who would like to participate?but are not on a team?are welcome.
A survivor meal will be available at 5:30 p.m. at no charge for survivors. The meal is available to everyone else for $5.
The survivor lap begins at 7 p.m. Names on the luminaria will be read beginning at 10 p.m.

Low-impact water aerobics offered
Anna Woods, certified personal trainer with Woods Wellness, is instructing a low-impact water aerobics class at 10:40 a.m. Wednesdays at the Hillsboro Aquatics Center.
Interested individuals are invited to participate. Cost is $1 per session.

HHS orientation night on July 31
An orientation meeting for parents of upcoming Hillsboro High School freshmen will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, July 31 in the auditorium.
The informational meeting will provide insight as to what students and parents can expect during the first year of high school. General procedures and policies and enrollment procedures will be covered. There will also be a time for questions from the parents.
