Holy Transfiguration extends invitation


Holy Transfiguration Orthodox Christian Church invites all to join in celebrating Feast Day Aug. 5-6.

The church is located at 116 N. Washington in Hillsboro.

The Transfiguration of Our Lord service begins with Great Vespers at 6:30 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 5.

On Monday, Aug. 6, the day of the Transfiguration will begin with Orthros at 9 a.m. followed by Divine Liturgy at 10 a.m.

MOPS to hold potluck picnic


All families of children ages 0 to kindergarten are invited to a family potluck picnic at 5:30 p.m. Aug. 5 at Hillsboro Memorial Park.

The event will mark the start of a new year of Mothers of Preschoolers.

Hot dogs, hamburgers and drinks will be provided. Bring a side dish or dessert to share.

Chat and Dine to meet Aug. 4


Chat and Dine will meet at 6:30 p.m. Aug. 4 at the South Lake Hall at Marion County Lake.

All lake residents and families past and present are invited to attend. Bring a covered dish and your own table service.

Enjoy visiting with your friends and getting to know the new neighbors.

USD 411 enrollment set for Aug. 6, 7


Enrollment for 2007-08 school year will take place Aug. 6 and Aug. 7 for students attending Goessel schools.

Monday?s hours will be 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., and Tuesday?s sessions will be 8 a.m. to noon.

Enrollment for kindergarten through grade five will be at Goessel Elementary School.

Sessions for grades six through 12 will be at Goessel Junior High/Senior High School.

School supply lists are available at Keith?s Foods in Goessel and the nearest discount stores.

Goessel USD 411 sessions begin Thursday, Aug. 16.


Come hear gospel, bluegrass Aug. 5


The annual Spring Valley Church music program will be held at 7 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 5, at Springfield Park on Kansas Highway 15.

The evening will feature the Tom & Lois Harder family from Wichita. The Harders are co-pastors of Lorraine Mennonite Church in Wichita.

They and their daughters sing gospel and bluegrass.

Bring your own chairs.


Quilt guild to meet Aug. 6 at UMC


Country Stitchers Quilt Guild will meet at 7:30 p.m. Aug. 6 at the United Methodist Church in Hillsboro.

The speaker will be Belva Hauxwell from Hays. Her program will be ?Extraordianary Crayola.?

Guests are welcome.
