Chat and Dine Club sets potluck June 5

The next potluck dinner at the Marion County Park and Lake Chat and Dine Club is at 6:30 p.m. Saturday, June 5, at the Lake Hall.

?Bring a guest and come prepared for a fun evening,? said Paul White, one of the coordinators.

Dinner, concert will aid Walton school

?

A dinner and country music concert with Larry Thompson and the Big Buckle Band will financially benefit the Walton Rural Life Center June 5.

The event will be at the elementary school?s barn that was constructed during the 2008-09 school year.

Proceeds will be used to fund farm field trips and generally support the programs of this agricultural-based kindergarten-through-fourth-grade charter school.

Musicians include Larry Thompson, Chris Anderson, Evan LaRue, Steve McClure, Bob Bales and Jim Brennan. Lauren Thompson, 9, will perform with the band.

Tickets are $10 each and include a complete barbecue dinner. The menu will feature food made from locally grown products.

Food will be served from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. The show will be from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Audience members are encouraged to bring lawn chairs.

Demolition derby scheduled May 30

A demolition derby will begin at 6:30 p.m. Sunday, May 30, at the Marion County Fairgrounds in Hillsboro.

Vendors sought for ?Days of Olde? fair

?

Vendors are being sought for the ?Days of Olde? Antique Fair from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, June 12, in downtown Hillsboro.

Antiques, primitives, vintage, repurposed and collectables will be focus of the fair.

American Legion to sponsor dinner

The Hillsboro American Legion is sponsoring a steak dinner at noon, Monday, May 31, at Memorial Park.

The cost is $12 and everyone is welcome to attend.

?Song on the Lawn? planned for June 6

?

Song on the Lawn, the fourth annual mini music festival and meal hosted by Joyful Noise Community Child Care Center and Willowspring Downs, is planned for 5 p.m. June 6.

The event will feature six music groups: Jake Schmidt, Cousins Four, Brothers and Sisters, The Greenhorns, Sound of the Heartland Chorus, and Laura Unruh/Ana Loucks.

A new feature this year is Ted Cook with his balloon animals for the children.

A pulled-pork meal will be served beginning at 5 p.m. The meal and entertainment are by donation as a fundraiser for Joyful Noise Community Child Care Center.

Participants are encouraged to bring their own lawn chairs or blankets for seating on the lawn.

Willowspring Downs is located at 1582 Falcon, rural Hillsboro. Directions from Goessel are three miles north on Kansas Highway 15, four miles east on 150th, three-quarter mile north on Falcon.

From Hillsboro, go four miles south on Indigo, three miles west on 150th, three-quarter mile north on Falcon.

In case of rain, the event will be at Goessel Elementary School.
