Jammin? Biscuits on museum menu

The gospel bluegrass group Jammin? Biscuits will provide the entertainment at Mennonite Heritage & Agricultural Museum?s annual Heritage Dinner Saturday, April 10.

The event will begin with a catered meal at 6:30 p.m at Tabor Mennonite Church, 891 Chis?holm Trail Road, rural Newton. The menu includes beef brisket, hashbrown casserole, green beans, dessert and beverages.

Jammin? Biscuits will perform following the meal.

The Heritage Dinner is an annual fundraiser for the museum. Reservations are required.

Tickets may be reserved by calling the museum at 620-367-8200; the deadline is April 5. The cost of a ticket is $50; payment may be made at the door.

Society offering $500 scholarship

?

The Alpha Omega Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma Society International of Marion County will award a $500 scholarship to a female student majoring in education in early May.

The award is given annually to encourage young women to enter the field of education. Any female high school graduate from Marion County planning to major in education, and planning to attend, or is attending, a college or university in Kansas, is eligible to apply for this award.

Selection of the recipient is based on scholarship, financial need and character.

Easter egg hunt April 3 in Hillsboro

?

The annual Kiwanis Easter Egg Hunt will begin at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 3, at Memorial Park in Hillsboro. The event is popular for children ages 10 and younger. Last year?s hunt drew record participation.

The Easter egg hunt is a service project of the club, but local business sponsors are key to its success. The names of the sponsors are included in the candy baskets; children are encouraged to stop by to thank them.

Public invited to April 2 Easter event

?

Morning Star Church youth are inviting the public to an Easter program at 7:30 p.m. Good Friday, April 2.

The church is located at 3403 Falcon Road, which is 41?2 miles north, two miles west and one more mile north of Durham.

USD 397 schedules kindergarten tests

?

Kindergarten screenings are planned for Friday, April 9, at Centre Elementary School in Lost Springs.

Children 5 years and older on or before Aug. 31 are welcomed to participate in the screening.

No preschool or kindergarten classes are planned for April 9.

Country Stitchers to meet April 5

Country Stitchers Quilt Guild will meet at 7:30 p.m. Monday, April 5, at the Hillsboro United Methodist Church, 905 East D St.

The program will be by Demelia?s Quilt Co. in Yoder. The fat quarter of the month will be Easter fabric.

CGHS groups plan Easter egg hunt

The Canton-Galva High School?s Future Business Leaders of America and Family, Career and Community Leaders of America organizations are sponsoring an Easter egg hunt at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 3, on Park Street at the old park in Canton.

All children from birth through sixth grade are welcome to attend for fun and to hunt for candy. Participants should bring their own Easter baskets.

Tampa plans movie night April 10

The Tampa Community Association is hosting a movie night beginning at 8 p.m. Satur?day, April 10, at the Tampa Senior Center. The movie will be?Old Dogs.?

Library computers open for taxes

?

Hillsboro Public Library will be open by appointment for those needing computers to file Kansas Income Tax returns.

?Staff realizes that some patrons are unable to access computers during regular business hours,? said Cathy Fish, library director. No tax advice is available.

Kids Connection enrollment to begin

?

Kids Connection will be accepting applications for the 2010-11 preschool from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Friday, April 9.

Parents or guardians are invited to bring their child to enroll and tour the preschool any time during the day, or by appointment. Applications will be accepted until all spaces are full, said Tracy Hefley, director.

Preschool is available for 3-, 4- and 5-year-olds. Classes are available from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. either Monday/Wednesday or Tuesday/Thursday.

Applications may be picked up at 300 Prairie Pointe in Hillsboro. For more information, call Hefley at 620-947-3004.
