Gaskill to speak at free CIS workshop

Richard Gaskill, a community mental-health worker for nearly 30 years, will be the featured speaker at a free workshop for people who teach, care for, parent and love young children.

The workshop, titled ?Loving, Nurturing and Caregiving,? is sponsored by Communities in Schools of Marion County and will be April 5 in the second-floor conference room of the Tabor College Library in Hillsboro.

A workshop from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.is titled ?Neurosequential Development in Children: Implications for Professionals.

An evening event, includeding a free box supper, is titled ?Why Should Early Childhood Issues Matter to Communities?? and will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Gaskill, a child trauma fellow and clincial director at Sumner Mental Health Center in Welling?ton, has developed materials for numerous childhood development and parenting classes, as well as therapeutic programs for preschools and schools.

Easter egg hunt April 1 in Hillsboro

?

The Kiwanis Easter Egg Hunt begins at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 3, at Memorial Park in Hillsboro.

The annual Easter egg hunt is a popular event for children ages 10 and under with last year?s hunt drawing record numbers.

While the Easter egg hunt is a service project of the club, local business sponsors are key to its success. Sponsors are included in baskets and children are encouraged to stop by these businesses to say, ?thank you.?

Chat and Dine Club to meet April 3

?

The Chat and Dine Club, sponsored by Marion County Park and Lake, is planning its first potluck at 6:30 p.m. Saturday, April 3, at the Lake Hall.

In addition to the potluck, everyone is encouraged to bring ideas for this year?s activities.

?The renovation of the interior of the Lake Hall is complete and looks great,? said Paul White, one of the coordinators.

Bereavement camp for children June 4

?

Hospice Care of Kansas is sponsoring a bereavement camp June 4-6 and is open to youth ages 7 through 17, who are having difficulty with the death of a loved one. The camp, ?Healing Hearts…We?ll Laugh Again: will be held at Horizon Camp and Recreation Center outside of Arkansas City.

The deadline for applications is Friday, April 16, and space is limited.
