Free fishing derby slated in Herington

The James Weber Memorial Fishing Derby, sponsored by Centre High School?s FFA Chapter, is planned for 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 15.

The derby will be at Father Padilla Memorial Park, 501 N. Broadway, Herington, with registration beginning at 9 a.m.

The event is free and open to children ages 6 through 12, but everyone is asked to bring his or her own fishing pole.

Bait will be provided and prizes will be awarded.


Goessel Elementary plans fundraiser

The Goessel Elementary School?s parent-teacher organization is selling trash bags to help fund school projects this year.

The bags come in a variety quantities and sizes: 65 bags with 15-gallon capacity; 25 bags with 39-gallon capacity, 16 bags with 55-gallon capacity rolls and individually cut pumpkin-face bags for collecting fall leaves. The bags are $10 a roll and pumpkin bags are $2 each.

GES students are selling the bags until Sept. 17 with delivery around Sept. 27.

TEEN board will meet Sept. 19

The Technology Excellence in Education Network will have its regular meeting at 6 p.m. Wed?nes??day, Sept. 19.

The meeting, conducted by conference call, will originate at the USD 408 district office at 101 N. Thorp, Marion.

Come-and-go party Sept. 24 for MOPS

The Mothers of Preschoolers group in Marion is hosting a come-and-go kickoff party from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Sept. 24 at Eastmoor United Methodist Church, 105 Eastmoor Drive.

MOPS is a group for mothers of children from birth to age 5.

At the kickoff, those attending will receive a one-year free membership, a $25 value, that includes a small gift, bi-monthly magazine, a 2012-13 MOPS schedule and a weekly e-mail.

Participants will also receive either a free package of diapers, sippy cup, wipes or pull ups.

Mothers are invited to bring their children.
