Hillsboro blood drive set for Dec. 7

A community blood drive is planned for 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. Friday, Dec. 7, at Parkview Men­nonite Brethren Church, 610 S. Main, Hillsboro.

Citing the increased demand for blood because of recent natural disasters, organizers encourage people age 17 and older to make an appointment to donate by visiting redcrossblood.org or calling 1-800-733-2767.


Tabor College band to perform Nov. 30

The Tabor College Symphonic Band and Chamber Strings will present a concert at 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 30, at Hillsboro Mennonite Brethren Church, 300 Prairie Pointe.

The theme for the concert is “Lauda,” which is Latin for “praise.” The band and strings will each perform and then come together for an orchestral finale.

The concert is free and open to the public.


Family featured at Lifelong Learning

Hillsboro native Jon Braun, wife Christi, and their seven children will bring a program of music and sharing at Lifelong Learning Friday, Nov. 30.

The program begins at 9:45 a.m. in the Tabor College Wohl­gemuth Music Education Center.

In 2010 the Brauns opened their hearts and Texas home to four siblings from an orphanage in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. The siblings were welcomed home by the Brauns’ three biological children.

Jon Braun is a commercial airline pilot based in Texas and is the son of Jack and LaVerna Braun, longtime Tabor College staff members and Hillsboro residents.

Fees are $4 per session, or with semester membership. Registration allows for optional lunch at discount in the cafeteria after the session.

Country Stitchers to meet Dec. 3

Country Stitchers Quilt Guild will meet for its “Snow Days” Christmas party at 7 p.m. Dec. 3 at Hillsboro United Methodist Church.

Bring goodies to eat and batting for the QOV service project.

Stitches Quilt Shop from McPherson will bring gift ideas.


Marion library to sponsor home tour

Marion City Library will sponsor its annual Christmas Home Tour from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 2.

Homes on the tour include Garry and Sharlyn Dunnegan, 41 Lakeshore, Marion County Lake (formerly Kingfisher’s Inn); Scott and Rolana Heidebrecht, 219 N. Third St.; Vickie Kraus, 307 Elm St.; and Bruce and Belinda Skiles, 1914 Quail Creek Road, Highway 256 Refreshments will be served at the library, 101 Library St.

Tickets are $5 and available at the library or at each home the day of the tour. For more information, call the library at 620-382-2442. (See full story Page 13A)
