Free Social Security, Medicare Class

The Marion Co Department on Aging will offer a free social security/Medicare 101 class at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 28 at the Hillsboro City Building.

This class is for individuals turning 65 in the coming year. The class will over the basics about Social Security, Medicare, Medicare Supplemental plans and prescription drug plans.

Call to register for the class at 620-382-3580. Registration required by Monday, Aug. 27 to allow adequate material for all who attend.

Marion Presentation on River Caverns

Gary Schuler will present a program “Adventures in Hurricane River Cave” on Tuesday, Aug 28 at 7 p.m. in the Sante Fe Room at the Marion City Library.

Hurricane River Caverns are located in Arkansas an hour away from Eureka Springs. They were discovered around 1820, and became a show cave around 1921. Members of the Jesse James gang used the cave as a hideout.

Accompany Schuler as he shares his 2 year journey of exploring the old show cave.

ServSafe Food Handlers class

A ServSafe Food Handlers Certification Class will be offered from 6:30-8:30 p.m. on September 12 and 26 from at the Marion Community Building (203 N 3rd St).

The Center for Disease Control (CDC) estimates that each year roughly 1 in 6 Americans gets sick, 128,000 are hospitalized, and 3,000 die of foodborne diseases.

The ServSafe® program is a national certification program designed to teach safe handling practices to people who handle and serve food to the public.

Craft beer tasting

at Elgin Hotel Aug. 25

The Historic Elgin Hotel’s second Craft Beer and Live Music Event has been set for 6:30-10 p.m. on Aug. 25. The talented Box Turtles will perform in the courtyard at 7:30 p.m.

General admission tickets are $30 with entrance at 6:30 p.m. VIP tickets are $40 and include an Elgin memorabilia glass as well as admission at 6 p.m. Both tickets include 15 tastings from five different breweries, appetizers and live music.

Ladies Bible study to begin Aug 30

A community Bible study for women will meet at 9:30 a.m. on Thursday mornings beginning on Aug. 30. The meeting place will be in the Hearth Room at 300 Prairie Point, Hillsboro.

This year’s study will focus on how special and unique God has made each of us. The name of the study is S.H.A.P.E. Call Marilyn Jost at 620-947-5983 to reserve a small $6 study guide.
