Kick-off party happening at HPL

In a galaxy not so far, far away Hillsboro Public Library was hosting a summer reading program.

Kick-Off party at 12-2 p.m. on Saturday, June 1 at Memorial Park in Hillsboro.

The come and go event will have summer reading program info and sign-up, kids activities, Parents as Teachers sensory bins and sno cones for purchase from The Igloo.

CWF will meet on June 1 in Hesston

Creative Writers Fellowship meeting will be June 1 at Hesston Public Library at 2 p.m.

Amy Sharp, local photographer, will present “In the Garden” with poetry accompaniment.

Visitors are welcome.

FPL fundraiser will be on June 10

The Florence Public Library will be holding a fundraiser at 5 p.m. on June 10 at the library.

The menu will include hamburgers, hot dogs, baked beans, chips and dessert for a freewill offering.Proceeds will be used to purchase community Main Street banners.

Tai Chi Shibashi Class in June

The Marion County Department on Aging is offering a come and learn by doing the 18 Tai Chi Shibashi forms during the month of June in Marion and Hillsboro.

Shibashi is designed to strengthen the back and improve the general health and wellbeing of the person.

The overall benefits include reduction in mental stress and physical tension carried in the muscles of the body plus helps with circulation, breathing and mental sharpness.

You will learn the 18 forms which is gentle upper body stretching and rocking movement.

The Marion class will be at 8 a.m. on every Tuesday morning in June at the Marion Park Basketball Court starting June 4.

The Hillsboro class will be at 8 a.m. on every Thursday morning in June at the Hillsboro Memorial Park on the Scout House Patio starting June 6.

There is no charge for the class.

Weights for USD 410 students

Summer weight room hours for students in USD 410 start May 28.

Monday, Tuesday and Thursday (Weight room):

HS Boys: 6-7:30 a.m.

All Girls: 7:30-8:30 a.m.

MS Boys: 8:30-9:30 a.m. Wednesday (Speed/Agility):

All: 7-8 a.m.
