Underground Salt Mines Field Trip

The Hillsboro Recreation Commission is sponsoring a field trip to Strataca the Underground Salt Mines in Hutchinson KS on Friday, February 22.

We plan to meet at Hillsboro City Hall at 8 am and should be back around 4-4:30 pm. This program is for youth in grades 1st-6th.

We plan to arrive at the Salt Mines around 9:15 am and have a guided tour of the underground museum and then take a 30-minute tram ride through the mines where you will get to collect a souvenir piece of salt.

After the tour, we will have a special lunch in which we will eat pizza down in the tunnels. When we are through with lunch, we will load up the bus and finish our trip back in Hillsboro at Bluejay Lanes where we will bowl for an hour.

Please pick up your child between 4 and 4:30 pm at the Bluejay Lanes. The cost for the field trip is $30 and must be turned in by Feb. 15 so we will be able to order the shirts, pizza and have the correct supervision.

Hillsboro Kiwanas serve meal on Feb. 16

The Kiwanas will serve biscuits with sausage gravy from 6:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 16 at the Hillsboro Senior Center.

Instapot class will be offered on Feb. 23

The Hillsboro Recreation Commission and Danielle Rogers are hosting an Instant Pot Cooking class from 10 a.m.-12 p.m.

Danielle is a mom to three hungry boys and an owner of two instant pots that have been in nearly constant use for over three years.

If you have ever wondered what an instant pot or electric pressure cooker is, how to use one or why you’d even want one, then this class is for you.

We’ll go from basics on pressure cooking to more advanced ideas, the many different foods your instant pot can cook, safety features, how to read and convert recipes, and of course we’ll sample some great food.

No pressure cooker required – just come, learn and eat! We’ll be sampling homemade yogurt and cheesecake, as well as a main dish, using a pot in pot technique.

If you have questions before the class, call/text Danielle at 316-253-3230 or e-mail rogersd9@hotmail.com.

HRC programs are all now converted to online registrations at https://hillsboroks.recdesk.com/ Community/Home.

You will be able to register for this activity, and all of the HRC programs, on any computer, tablet or smart phone as long as you have a credit card or check card.

If you need to pay with cash or check, you are still able to go down to City Hall and register for any of our programs with cash, check, or card.
