Sports to be reading focus

A theme of sports—”On your mark, get set…READ!”—will be the summer reading program at Marion City Library

The program begins Monday June 13 and continue through Friday July 15 for children ages pre-kindergarten through eighth grade completed.

Participants read books and win prizes for reaching certain goals.

Stop by the library after June 1 to register your child for a summer full of reading fun.

County offering diabetes classes

The Marion County Department on Aging is a free “Lead Your Health, Living with Diabetes” program for individuals, who are pre-diabetic or Type 2 diabetic, as well as their caregivers and significant other.

The workshop focuses on techniques to deal with symptoms of diabetes, appropriate exercise, healthy eating and appropriate use of medication.

The workshop is a two-hour session once a week for six weeks. It will meet from 9:30-11:30 a.m. each Thurs­day, beginning June 2, at Trinity Menno­nite Church.

Artists exhibit works at library

An exhibit by local artists is on display at the Hillsboro Public Library.

The artists are from Letty Enns’s printing group. The ark work is in the media of pencil, oil and watercolor.

Featured artists are Billy Kueser, Joan Heinrichs, Teresa Rammers, Jeanie Funk and Letty Ens.

Library to close May 28-30

Hillsboro Public Library will be closed for Memorial Day weekend, from Saturday through Monday, to prepare for the summer season.

The library will begin accepting enrollment for its summer reading program June 1. Sessions are offered for ages 3 through fifth grade. Dates are June 23, June 30, July 7 and July 14.

Enrollment is based on the grade completed this year, with a $4 fee per child to help cover costs.There is no limit on class size.

The library also will be offer a teen reading program and an adult book read. Details on both programs will be available soon.

Free Tai Chi class offered in June

The Marion County Department on Aging will be offering a free Tai Chi class both in Marion and Hills­boro during June.

The Marion class will begin at 8 a.m. every Tues­day starting May 31 on the basketball court in Central Park.

The Hillsboro class begin at 8 a.m. every Thursday starting June 2 on the patio behind the Scout House in the Memorial Park.

dinner June 1

Dinner Together at Tampa is planned at 6 p.m. June 1 at the Tampa Senior Center.
