Library selling bags of books for funds

Hillsboro Public Library is selling books for $1 per bag through May 21. Proceeds will help fund library services.

The books are displayed on tables in the hallway in City Hall, 118 E. Grand.

 

Hymn sing set for May 20 at HMBC

The monthly community hymn sing is planned for 7 p.m. Sunday, May 20, at Hillsboro Mennonite Brethren Church, 300 Prairie Pointe.

Singing, prayer and scripture reading will be a part of the service.

This month?s theme is, ?Wind, Fire and Stillness,? with Steve Vincent leading the service.

 

Chess club to meet May 19 in Florence

The Florence Chess Club will meet from 10 a.m. to noon May 19 in the old Catholic school across from Holy Family Catholic Church, 726 Marion St., Florence.

All ages and skill levels are welcome and there is no cost.

Rick Hodges, former president of the Kansas Chess Association, will also be available for lessons.

The chess club meets the third Saturday of each month.

Local artists display work at library

An exhibit of local artists is on display at Hillsboro Public Library, 120 E. Grand Ave., through the month of May.

The artists are from Letty Enns? painting group and the work is in the medium of pencil, oil and watercolor.

Featured artists are Geneva Becker, Doris Guhr, Shirley Reusser, Bill Kueser, Mary Summers, Joan Heinrichs, Jeanie Funk, Pam Risen and Enns. For more information, call the library at 947-3827.

 

Vouchers delayed until next week

The distribution of farmers market vouchers for seniors has been delayed until the week of May 21-25, according to the Marion County Department on Aging.

To be eligible for the vouchers, a person must be age 60 or older and have a monthly income at or below $1,723 for a one-person household, $2,333 for a two-person household or $2,944 for a three-person household.

Anyone interested in getting their name added to the list to receive the $30 vouchers for use at farmers markets in Marion County can call the Department on Aging at 620-382-3580.

The department will call you when it receives the vouchers.
