TEEN board will meet May 15

 

The board of Technology Excellence in Education Network will meet at 6 p.m. May 15 at the USD 408 district office, 101 N. Thorp, Marion.

HHS graduation at 4 p.m. Saturday

 

The ceremonies for Hillsboro High School?s 107th graduating class will begin at 4 p.m. Satur?day, May 18, at the Joel H. Wiens Stadium.

In case of inclement weather, the ceremonies will be in Robert C. Brown Gymnasium.

 

 

Parsley, sage, basil topic of workshop

 

A herb workshop is scheduled for 10 a.m.Saturday, May 18 at Villa on the Prairie, 111 W. Sixth St., Florence.

The topic at the workshop is parsley, sage and basil. Karyn Woodward will offer participants ideas and ways to use these herbs.

Hymn sing slated May 19 at HMBC

 

The monthly community hymn sing will be at 7 p.m. Sunday, May 19, at Hillsboro Mennonite Brethren Church, 300 Prairie Pointe.

With the theme ?Empty, Empty, Occupied and Filled,? the even?ing will include singing, Scrip?ture reading and prayer. Participants will have an opportunity to select favorite hymns.

Steve Vincent is coordinating the service and Gail Dyck will be playing the flute.

 

 

FFA alums invited to HHS banquet

 

Hillsboro High School FFA is inviting former members who are interested in becoming a supporter of a local alumni chapter to attend the organization?s annual banquet at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 21, in the commons.

Initial Relay for Life meeting May 20

 

A Relay for Life meeting for all team captains and prospective committee members is planned for 5:30 p.m. Monday, May 20, at the Sports and Aquatic Center in Marion.

This year?s organizers said they are hoping to integrate as many people in the county to make it a true community event.

County lake to host catfish tournament

 

Marion County Park and Lake is hosting a catfish tournament from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday at the lake.

Info meeting set for swim team

 

The Hillsboro swim team will be having a parent/swimmer information meeting from 7 p.m. 8:30 p.m. at the Scout House in Memorial Park.

All parents of swimmers registered for this summer are asked to attend.

Any parent curious about swim team, but hasn?t yet registered a swimmer, is welcomed to attend. Late registra?tions are still being accepted.

Tai Chi class slated May 29 in Hillsboro

 

The Marion County Depart?ment on Aging is offering an eight-week Tai Chi class from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. every Monday and Wednesday starting May 29.

The class will meet in the basement youth room at Trinity Mennonite Church, 211 Elm St., Hillsboro. Those attending should use the door on the west side of the church. The cost of the class is $8 for eight weeks.

The class is for individuals who want to improve their strength and balance or have arthritis. The instructor will teach the basic six, the next six advanced and the final six forms.

Kyle reception set for May 16 at Tabor

 

The public is invited to a retirement reception from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday, May 16, for Richard Kyle, a history professor at Tabor College for 41 years.

The reception will be at Java Jays in the student center. At 4:15 p.m. will be words of celebration and commendation.

Local artists exhibit work at library

 

An exhibit showcasing local artists is on display at Hillsboro Public Library, 120 E. Grand Ave., throughout the month of May.

The artists are from Letty Enns? painting group and is in the medium of pencil, oil and watercolor.

Artists featured include Geneva Becker, Doris Guhr, Billy Kuesser, Joan Heinrichs, Sheila Nuss, Teresa Rammers, Regina Ogle, Pam Riesen, Shirley Reusser and Letty Enns.

The library is open Mondays from 9:30 a.m. to 8 p.m.; Tuesdays through Fridays from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturdays from 9:30 a.m. to noon.
