HES kindergarten screening April 6-7

Kindergarten screening will take place at Hillsboro Elementary School on Thursday and Friday, April 6-7.

If you have a preschooler who will be eligible for kindergarten in the 2017-18 school year, contact the HES office at 947-3184, ext. 1, to set an appointment.

Children will need to be 5 years old on or before Aug. 31, 2017, to be eligible for kindergarten this fall.

U.S. anthem topic of Lifelong Learning

The next Lifelong Learn­ing program will feature Debs McIlhenny, a Wichita attorney and singer/actor at 9:45 a.m. March 17, in the Parkview Menno­nite Breth­ren Church Activity Center, 610 S. Main, Hillsboro.

McIlhenny speaks publicly on patriotic, inspirational and constitutional issues; sings the national anthem at various venues; and performs regularly with the Wichita Symphony Orchestra Chorus.

McIlhenny’s program is titled, “What Were Ya Thinkin’?: A Perspective on the National Anthem and the Inspiration for It.”

“History promises us a permanent record of the good that comes from human strife,” McIlhenny said. “Yet, seldom do we expect one to be as visible and inspiring, every day, as this one.”

Due to current campus construction, the program location has changed for the remainder of the semester.

The public is welcome to attend all Lifelong Learning sessions and may register at the door for $5. Participants may enjoy lunch in the Tabor College cafeteria after the session at the discounted price of $4.

‘Goey Ooey’ event at Eastmoor UMC

A “Goey Ooey Family Event” will be held Saturday, March 18 from 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at Eastmoor United Methodist Church, 105 Eastmoor Dr., Marion.

Cost is $5 per family for 10 stations of “goey ooey fun.”

A taco bar will be available by donation.

Goessel will screen for kindergarten

USD 411-Goessel will offer kindergarten screening will take place at Goes­sel Mennonite Church Friday, March 31.

Families with a preschooler who will be eligible for kindergarten in the 2017-18 school year should contact the elementary school office at 620-367-8118 to schedule an appointment.

Children need to be 5 years old on or before Aug. 31, 2017, to be eligible for kindergarten this fall.

Pie Night fundraiser

for Project SEARCH

Three entities are planning a Pie Night fundraiser in support of Tabor College Project SEARCH from 5-7 p.m. March 26 at The FamLee Bakery, 330 E. Main St. Marion.

Project SEARCH is a work transition program for young adults with disabilities. It is a business-led internship where adult interns, age 18-30, can learn relevant marketable and transferable skills while immersed in the business environment.

The event is sponsored by the Project SEARCH Steering Committee, Marion County Special Education Cooperative and The FamLee Bakery.

Baked potato bar at Florence Library

A baked potato bar fundraiser will be held Friday, March 17 at 5 p.m. at the Florence Library.

A freewill donation will be accepted.
