Quartet to sing at Agape fundraiser


The Heritage Quartet will perform at 7 p.m. Friday, March 11, at the annual fundraiser for the Agape Senior Center at Goessel.

The dinner at 6 p.m. will include chili from Wendy?s Restaurant and homemade pies.

The cost of the meal will be by donation and proceeds will be used to purchase an automatic door opener.

Everyone is welcome.


Mothers of Twins club plans meeting


The Kansas Organization of Mothers of Twins is seeking to organize a club in the area for mothers of twins and multiples.

Founded in 1963, the organziation helps mothers with different issues at different stages of their multiple?s lives.

In addition to looking for people to organize a club, the group will have a convention in Stafford April 29-30 for mothers of multiples.

HES kindergarten screenings to begin


Hillsboro Elementary School is planning kindergarten screenings March 31 and April 1.

Preschoolers who are eligible for kindergarten in the 2011-12 school year are encouraged to call the elementary office at 620-947-3981 to set up an appointment for the screening.

School officials said children need to be 5 years old on or before Aug. 31 to be eligible for kindergarten in the fall.


Marion Library to host quilt show


In conjunction with Marion?s sesquicentennial events, Marion City Library annual quilt show?s theme is ?Stitches in Time? from March 14-26.

More than 20 quilts and wall hangings will be on display. Everyone is encouraged to stop by the library at 101 Library St. during regular hours: Mondays, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.; Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Thursdays, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Saturdays, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Rec brochures offered for summer


The Hillsboro Recreation Commission summer activities brochure is ready for distribution.

Parents who did not receive a brochure during the school?s parent-teacher conferences can still receive one.

One way is to pick one up at the Hillsboro city offices at 118 E. Grand. The second way is to go to the offices of either the middle or elementary schools.

TEEN group meets March 16 in Marion


The Technology Excellence in Education Network will hold its regular meeting at 6 p.m. March 16 via phone conference.

USD 408 enrolling for kindergarten


USD 408 Marion-Florence is having it kindergarten round-up March 21 and is looking for students who will be enrolling in kindergarten this fall.

Children must be 5 years old by Aug. 31 to be eligible.

Parents wanting to enroll kindergartners in the fall are asked to call Deb Shipman, Marion Elementary School, at 620-382-3771 or 800-498-2014 to set up an appointment for the round-up.


StoryTime begins March 18 in Marion


Marion City Library StoryTime will be from 2:30 p.m. to 3 p.m. beginning March 18 and continuing through April 22 for children ages 3, 4 and 5 years.

The program will include stories, crafts and snacks. Because space is limited, library officials are encouraging parents or guardians to make reservations as soon as possible.

Strength-training open to public


The Hillsboro Recreation Commission and Hillsboro High School will be opening the HHS strength-training facility to the public.

The facility will be open to Hillsboro students who are accompanied by a parent, as well as residents of Hillsboro over the age of 19, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Thursday.

People should enter the facility through the east door of the new addition on the east end of the main high school building.

Organizers of the Hillsboro Farmers Market are scheduling fundraising meals for the upcoming may through September season.
