Wendy?s to donate to HES library
Wendy?s restaurant in Hills?boro will donate 20 percent of its sales from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, March 13, to the Hillsboro Elementary School library.
The offer is in conjunction with the library?s annual Family Reading Night the same evening.
Free screening in Marion March 13
Marion County Early Inter?vention Services is offering a free screening for children age birth through 5 years old Tuesday, March 13, at the Marion Presbyterian Church, located at Lawrence and Elm.
Appointments will be available from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. At the screening, development will be checked in the learning, motor, language and social areas. Vision and hearing will also be screened.
This process usually takes at least one hour for a child to complete. All children are welcome, but an appointment is necessary. To make one, call 620-382-2858.
HES book fair set for March 7-14
The Hillsboro Elementary School library and site council will host its annual Scholastic Book Fair along with Family Reading Night.
The book fair will be open from Wednesday, March 7, to Wednesday, March 14.

The online book fair allows a child to send wish lists, inviting family and friends to participate in the book fair; offers an expanded book selection for all ages, even adult titles; is available through March 20.
MES plans roundup for kindergartners
Marion Elementary School is having its kindergarten roundup evaluation March 26 at the school.
Parents who are wanting to enroll their children in kindergarten this fall are urged to contact Deb Shipman at 620-382-3771 or toll-free at 800-498-2014 to set up an appointment.
Children must be 5 years old by Aug. 31 to be eligible.
Student art exhibit at Peabody library
Peabody Township Library is hosting an art exhibit featuring Peabody-Burns elementary and junior high students through Friday March 9.
Seventeen second-graders made patterned lizards on a log, 13 fourth-graders made tessellations (a math and art mix) in colored pencil and 17 fifth graders did observational drawings of the elementary school.
Four junior high students drew still-life pencil drawings and 11 made computer-generated mandalas.
HES sets screening for kindergarteners
Kindergarten screening at Hillsboro Elementary School will be April 4 and 5.
Those who have a preschooler eligible for kindergarten in the 2012-13 school year should call the office at 947-3981 to set up an appointment for the round-up.
Children need to be 5 years old on or before Aug. 31 to be eligible for kindergarten.
Student musicians perform Thursday
Peabody Township Library is hosting an open house, art exhibit, book sale and music extravaganza from 5 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Thursday, March 8.
Selected musicians from Pea?body-Burns junior high school will perform pieces they took to competitions. Music will begin at 7 p.m. and refreshments will be served.
Hundreds of books will be for sale, most for only $1.
Two seminars set for retiring people
An informational seminar for those retiring in the near future is planned for 10 a.m. March 10, or 7 p.m. March 13, at 105 S. Main St., Hillsboro.
The purpose of the seminar is to educate individuals on Medi?care and Social Security. Topics to be discussed include when someone needs to enroll in Medicare and Social Security; differences if someone continues to work; identifying retirement income resources and answering questions.

MCSEC to meet March 15 in Marion
The Marion County Special Education Cooperative board of directors will meet at 7 p.m. March 15 for its monthly meeting. The meeting will be in the conference room at 1500 E. Lawrence, Marion.

Book group to meet March 12
Hillsboro Public Library’s book discussion group will meet at 9:30 a.m. March 12 at the Hillsboro Senior Center.
The book being discussed is ?The Paris Wife? by Paula McClain. The library has a number of copies available to read in advance of the meeting.
Organizers ask that participants note the group is now meeting the second Monday of each month at 9:30 a.m. at Hillsboro Senior Center.
Benefit auction slated in Peabody
A benefit auction and dinner for Peabody Main Street will begin at 6 p.m. March 10 at the Peabody American Legion.
The auction starts at 8 p.m. and includes items ranging from a wall clock and handmade quilt to pharmacy ledger and Denver Bronco home-game tickets.
