Church group plans fundraiser

An intergenerational group from First Mennonite Church in Hillsboro will be raising money for a service trip to San Antonio, Texas, by sponsoring a meal from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday, July 1, at the Farmers? Market on the grounds of the William F. Schaeffler House Museum.

The meal will include barbecued meatballs, scalloped potatoes, green beans, bread, dessert bar, tea or water.

All proceeds will benefit their trip to serve with urban ministry DOOR?Discovering Opportun-ities for Outreach and Reflection.

?Bee Movie? to play July 10 in Hillsboro

?

The ?Bee Movie? and classic cartoons will be shown free at 8 p.m. Saturday, July 10, at the Schaeffler House, corner of Grand and Jefferson, Hillsboro.

Slushies, popcorn, candy and soft drinks will be sold by the Hillsboro Convention and Visitors Bureau. Organizers are encouraging everyone to bring lawn chairs, blankets and bug spray and enjoy a funny and family-friendly movie.

Golden Heritage Foods and Emprise Bank are sponsoring the movie.

Bebermeyer earns certification

?

Lori Bebermeyer of Hillsboro was awarded certification as a breastfeeding educator after recently completing a three-day workshop on clinical breastfeeding assistance at the Promise Regional Medical Center in Hutchinson.

Marion County Health Department has three Certified Breastfeeding Educators.

Certification is an added credential that recognizes increased clinical competence in the field of breastfeeding assistance.

In addition to participating in the workshop, which addressed the normal course of lactation, Bebermeyer completed an assessment and problem-solving practicum, and an examination addressing usual circumstances and common challenges with breastfeeding.

Gospel concert and fireworks on July 4

?

Forgiven Quartet, a Southern gospel group, will present a concert with a fireworks show to follow at 7:30 p.m. July 4 at Trinity Mennonite Church.

The event is sponsored by Charlie?s Fireworks.

Members sought

for singing group

Anyone interested in joining a group called, ?The German Singers,? are invited to a rehearsal at 7 p.m. Friday, July 2, in the Parkside Congregate rehearsal room on the basement level, 200 Willow Rd., Hillsboro.

Jona Baltzer, one of the coordinators, said it has been over a year since the group has sung together.

The plan is to give an informal program Monday, July 5.

Music is furnished for new participants, he said, and those joining are asked to bring a three-ring notebook for filing selections.

Aulne celebration set for July 3

?

Aulne United Methodist Church?s annual Independence Day celebration will be at 7 p.m. Saturday, July 3, at the corner of 140th and Pawnee, just south of Marion, about 5 miles.

The evening will begin with live music, followed at 8 p.m. with homemade ice cream for everyone and finish with a fireworks display at 9 p.m.

In past years, the event has been held on Sundays.

The public is invited bring lawn chairs and join in for a fun evening.
