The Marion City Library is planning a Lego Day from 3-4:30 p.m. July 12 at the facility.

Activities include making a Lego zipline, a lego balance or any other ideas using the construction toys.

The event is for children ages 5 and older and no registration is required.

Library to show kids’ movie July 5

A movie will be shown at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 5. at the Marion City Library.

Children under age 7 must be accompanied by an adult.

This week’s movie is about a strong-willed daughter of a chief of a Polynesian tribe, who is chosen by the ocean itself to reunite a mystical relic with a goddess. When a blight strikes her island, she sets sail in search of Maui, a legendary demigod, in the hope of saving her people.

The movie is rated PG and runs 107 minutes.

HRC offering yoga classes with Beery

The Hillsboro Recreation Commission and Lesli Beery are offering another stress-relieving yoga class this summer, beginning Wednes­day, July 5.

The class will meet for one hour at 8 p.m. every Monday and Wednesday in the meeting rooms at city hall. Benefits of yoga include increased flexibility, strengthening through elongation of muscles, core strength and improved balance.

Participants are asked to bring their own mat if possible; mats are limited be may be rented for $1 per class if needed. Cost of the class is $5 per session for adults and $3. per session for high school and college students.

Hillsboro churches offer VBS program

Parkview and Ebenfeld churches are co-sponsoring a Vacation Bible School called, “Maker Fun Factory: Created by God, Built for a Purpose,” 6:15-8:30 p.m. July 10-14 at Parkview, 610 S. Main St., Hillsboro.

The program involves kindergarteners through fifth grade. To preregister, call the office of either church: Parkview, 947-2338; or Ebenfeld, 947-3871.

Aulne fireworks event is July 9

Because of scheduling conflicts, the Aulne community fireworks event will be July 9. Festivities begin at 7 p.m., fireworks at dark.

The public is invited to attend the event, which will be at Aulne Methodist United Church, 1405 Pawnee Road.

Public invited to McHomes meeting

Marion County Home Educators (McHomes) invites the public to a homeschool information meeting from 9:30-10:30 a.m. Saturday, July 15, in the East Room of the Hillsboro City Building, 118 E. Grand Ave.

Brunch will be served.

Marion library hosts magic show July 11

Children of all ages are invited to attend a magic act by Shawn Reida at 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 11, at the Marion Community Center.

Relay for Life sets

meeting July 11

Relay for Life of Marion County is having a meeting at 7 p.m. Tuesday, July 11, in the basement of St. Luke Hospital in Marion.

With the Aug. 5 event approaching, scheduling details need to be finalized and volunteer resources discussed. Luminary supplies and general information will be available.

Organizers want to collect canned food to weight luminaria bags; after the event, the canned goods will go to the four Marion County food banks.

Drop-off locations for the canned food include Hills­boro Chamber of Commerce, True Value, Hillsboro State Bank and Fast Realty in Hillsboro; St. Luke Hospital and Prairieland Partners in Marion and the Christian Church in Florence.

Items may be donated through Aug. 3.
