Lake to sponsor paddle boat races
Marion County Lake is sponsoring its second annual paddle boat race at 10 a.m. Aug. 10.
The event will also include canoes and kayaks.

Ventriloquist to visit Marion July 23
Marion City Library is hosting Kevin Horner, a ventriloquist, illusionist and comedian, at 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 23, at the Marion Community Center, 208 E. Santa Fe.
Horner?s program, ?Dig Into Reading,? is free and for children of all ages. The performance will also include several puppets.

Hillsboro UMC to host movie night
Hillsboro United Methodist Church, 905 East D St., is planning a Summer Sizzle Movie Night July 20. The event is a fundraiser for Wyldlife-Young Life Ministry, a non-denominational group focusing on introducing Christ to teens who are unchurched and then helping them plug into local congregations so their faith can be nurtured.
The movie, ?Soul Surfer,? is a true story of a young girl?s faith, family and fight to get back on her surfboard after losing her arm in a shark attack.
The movie will be shown in the sanctuary starting at 7 p.m. Admission is $1 per person or a food item for the Main Street Food Bank. Summer Sizzle Kids will also be selling concessions to raise funds to send at-risk kids to a Wyldlife Camp.
Benefit supper to support HHS alum
The public is invited to participate in a benefit supper for Luke Moore, a 2012 Hillsboro High School graduate who recently was diagnosed with a form of cancer called Ewing Sarcoma in his right knee.
Moore and his family were to begin chemotherapy treatment July 8 in Kansas City.
Proceeds from the taco and cookie benefit, planned for 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 17, in the activity center at Park?view Menno?nite Brethren Church, 610 S. Main, Hillsboro, will be used to offset medical expenses.
