VBS planned for community kids

Hillsboro Mennonite Breth?ren Church is planning a two-day vacation Bible school program for community children this weekend.

The first session will be from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Friday, July 16, then from 9 a.m. to 3:15 p.m. Saturday, July 17. It will conclude Sunday morning, July 18, with a family pancake breakfast at 9:30 a.m. followed by the VBS family worship service at 10:40 a.m.

If children have not yet registered, they may do so by contacting the church office at 947-3144 or registering Friday night before the activities begin.

Children who will be age 4 by Sept. 1, through children who recently completed the sixth grade are welcome to participate in the free program.

The church is located at 300 Prairie Pointe.

Marion City Library to show movie

?

The Marion City Library is sponsoring a movie night at 9 p.m. Friday, July 16. Organizers are reminding everyone to bring chairs and snacks.

The movie is a new release about a spy who is needed to babysit his neighbor?s unruly children. When the children accidentally download his spy codes to their computer, though, the action-packed adventure begins as they try to outrun the villains.

The movie is rated PG (parental guidance) and is 95 minutes long.

TEEN plans July 21 regular meeting

The Technology Excellence in Education Network will have its regular meeting at 6 p.m. Wednesday, July 21, at the USD 409 central officeffice, 230 E. Main St., Marion.

?Kids for Missions? to sponsor dinner

?

Dinner at the Thursday, July 15, Farmers? Market is sponsored by ?Kids For Missions? with the Hillsboro United Methodist Church. The meal will be served from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. The menu includes fried chicken, potato salad, baked beans and watermelon.

Proceeds from the meal will help the group?s sister church, Fern Valley United Methodist Church in Zimbabwe, Africa, in need of medications to benefit children.

Community VBS planned in Florence

?

Florence United Methodist Church and Florence Christian Church are sponsoring a community vacation Bible school from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. July 19 to July 23.

The church is lcoated at 201 W. Fifth St., Florence.

Pre-kindergarten through sixth-grade children are welcome to participate. Canned food will be collected each night for the Community Food Bank.

Hymn sing July 18 at HMB Church

?

The monthly inter-church hymn sing is planned for 7 p.m. Sunday, July 18, in the Hearth Room at Hillsboro Mennonite Brethren Church, 300 Prairie Pointe.

The evening theme will be ?God?s Mercies vs. God?s Blessings,? and will be led by Steve Vincent. It will include Scripture readings and time of prayer, Vincent said. Those attending will have the opportunity to select favorite hymns to be sung.

Helmer family meets at Lake Hall

The decendants of David and Anna Helmer gathered for the annual Helmer reunion Satur?day, July 3, at the Marion Lake Hall.

The event was hosted by the children of George and Carol Helmer, Jerry and Barb Bessel, Jo, Wendy, Alexis, Haylee and Logan Holtz of Assaria; Linda Stucky, Chaeli Keenan, Marci Finck of Wichita; Mark and Brenda Buller of Newton; Mark, Holly, Maguire and Hudson Lawrence of Valley Center.

Others attending were Ann Boese, Pearl Helmer, Edith and Fritz Helmer, H. ?Run For Your Momma? planned

?

Mothers of Preschoolers is sponsoring a ?Run For Your Momma? Aug. 14 at the Marion County Lake. The run is a half marathon relay and two-mile fun run.

Organizers are encouraging participants to take advantage of early registration until July 23. The run is open to all ages and abilities.

Proceeds will help the MOPS program.
