Dept. on Aging to offer wellness class


The Marion County Depart?ment on Aging will offer a six-week wellness class in Marion starting July 25.

The class will meet once a week at 1:30 p.m. for six consecutive Mondays through Aug. 29. All sessions will be at the Hilltop Manor Community Room, 1501 E. Lawrence, Marion.

This program, developed by Stanford University, helps people improve their quality of life by learning valuable techniques to cope with the symptoms and frustrations of living with a chronic condition.

The class is open to anyone living with diabetes, pain, lung disease, heart disease and arthritis.

The class also is open to family, friends or caregivers.

The cost for the class is $6, but no one will be denied participation due to inability to pay.

Registration is required. The deadline for registration is Fri?day, July 22.

Area solid waste group to meet


The Central Kansas Regional Solid Waste Authority regular quarterly meeting will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday, July 20, at the McPherson County Transfer Station, 1431 17th Ave, McPher?son.

The meeting is open to the public.


VBS weekend set July 15 at HMBC


Hillsboro Mennonite Breth?ren Church, 300 Prairie Pointe, is hosting a vacation Bible school weekend July 15-17.

The weekend begins from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Friday, July 15, then continues Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3:15 p.m.

VBS Sunday school begins at 9:30 a.m. followed by family worship at 10:40 a.m. From 4 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. is the grand finale community family carnival.

All children age 4 through the completion of fifth grade are welcome to participate.


Home educators plan info meeting


Marion County Home Educa?tors will host an informational meeting at 6:30 p.m. Monday, July 18, at the Hillsboro City Building.

The purpose of the meeting is to explain and answer questions about homeschooling.

The public is invited.


HHS band looking for participants


The Hillsboro High School band is having rehearsals from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. July 19 in the high school band room for community members interested in joining them during the Marion County Fair July 27.

The band will ride a trailer during the parade performing marches and patriotic music and invites others to take part.

Mini fair planned July 13 in Tampa


The Tampa Farmer?s Market, which opens at 6:30 p.m. each Wed?nesday, will include the Tampa Triple T?s 4-H Club this week.

The club is having a mini fair, and will be serving the meal.

Commodities to be available Saturday


U.S. Department of Agricul?ture food commodities distribution for Hillsboro will be 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, July 16, at Main Street Ministries, 415 S. Main.
