Parents as Teachers

to sponsor PJ event

Marion County Parents As Teachers is sponsoring its annual PJ reading events in Hillsboro, Burns, Marion, Goessel and Florence be­tween Jan. 22-29.

This year’s event features “Goldilocks and the Three Bears” coming to life through reading, play, art and games with coordination from each of the librarians.

Each event will be one hour long and at specific libraries.

◼ Marion: 6-7 p.m. Mon­day, Jan. 22, at Marion City Library, 101 Library St.

◼ Burns: 10:30-11:30 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 23, at Burns Public Library, 104 N. Wash­ington St.

◼ Peabody: 6-7 p.m. Tues­day, Jan. 23, at Pea­body-Burns Elementary Pre­­school, 506 Elm St.

◼ Goessel: 10:30-11:30 a.m. Friday, Jan. 26, Goessel Library, 101 S. Cedar.

◼ Florence: 10:30-11:30 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 27, at Florence Public Library.

◼ Hillsboro: 6-7 p.m. Mon­day, Jan. 29, at Hillsboro Public Library, 120 E. Grand.

All activities are geared for children age birth to 3.

Frostbite 4-mile moved to Feb. 4

Postponed because of frigid temperatures in January, the Hills­boro Recreation Com­mis­sion’s Frostbite 4-Mile Fun Run has been rescheduled for 2 p.m. Super Bowl Sunday, Feb. 4.

This is a walk or run that starts and ends at Memorial Park. The entry fee is $15. Registration forms are available at Hillsboro City Hall but walk-ups are welcomed.

HRC offering class about couponing

The Hillsboro Recreation Commission, along with Laura Paulus and Staci Silhan, will sponsor a “Couponing 101 & Easy Ways to Help Your Pocket & Community” class.

The 90-minute class will be at 10 a.m. Feb. 3, in the East Room at City Hall. The cost is $5; proceeds will go toward the Hillsboro Com­munity Plaza project.

Registrations are due by 5 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 1, at Hillsboro City Hall. Class time will cover paper and paperless coupons, rebate apps, step-by-step instructions in class to start with $10 or more.

Also addressed will be loyalty and rewards programs, insider advice about times to shop and stock up and save, and ways to positively impact the Hillsboro community with your purchases.

FFA alums invited to 1st chili cookoff

The Goessel FFA chapter is hosting its first annual FFA alumni chili cookoff starting at 5:30 p.m. Feb. 19 in the Goessel Vo-Ag shop.

Any FFA alumni in the Goessel community are invited to attend, regardless of their chapter.

A $3 admission fee enables people to sample all of the chili that is entered in the cookoff, unless you are entering chili.

The creator of the winning bowl of chili will receive a cash award and bragging rights. Categories include traditional, homestyle, chef’s choice and 14 and under.
