Bible study to begin Feb. 7 in Hillsboro

 

Community Bible Study will begin a new study series at 9 a.m. Feb. 7 in the Hearth Room of Hillsboro Mennonite Brethren Church, 300 Prairie Pointe.

The study is written by Beth Moore; baby-sitting is available. People interested in buying a study book can call 620-947-3411.

 

 

Mid-CAP to offer free tax services

 

Mid-Kansas Community Action Program Inc. will offer free basic tax services to Marion County residents starting next month.

Residents of Marion County who earned $51,000 or less in 2012 are eligible for tax assistance from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday and Friday, starting Feb. 4 through March 29.

Those interested in assistance should bring a Social Security card and appropriate tax forms, such as W-2s.

If married, both spouses must sign the tax forms before they can be submitted.

Quilt guild to meet Feb. 4 in Hillsboro

 

The Country Stitchers Quilt Guild will meet at 7 p.m. Feb. 4 at the Hillsboro United Methodist Church, 905 E. D St.

The program, ?Make Some?thing for Someone You Love,? will be presented by Marie Kessler of Kessler?s Kreations.

Guests are welcome to attend.

 

 

Eastmoor planning anti-malaria event

 

Eastmoor United Methodist Church is hosting a soup luncheon and a ?basketball shoot? at noon Sunday, Feb. 3, in an effort to help eradicate malaria in Africa.

Money from the luncheon and for supporting youth as they shoot baskets will go to purchase mosquito nets and medicine and support educational programs to fight the disease.

Malaria is 100 percent preventable, treatable and beatable.

The church is working in part?nership with the World Health Organization, the United Nations Foundation, the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and the Global Fund.

Those attending the luncheon can pledge support to youth participating in the basketball shoot.

 

 

TEEN to meet via phone Thursday

 

The Technology Excellence in Education Network will have a special board meeting at 5 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 31.

Members will meet via phone conference with the meeting originating at the Hillsboro District Office, 416 S. Date.

Free child screening in Peabody Feb. 12

 

Marion County Early Inter?vention Services will offer a free screening for children birth through 5 years old Tues?day, Feb. 12, at the United Metho?dist Church, 403 Sycamore St., Peabody.

Appointments will be available from 12:30 p.m. to 3 p.m.

At the screening, development will be checked in the areas of learning, motor, language and social. Vision and hearing also will be screened.

This process usually takes at least one hour for a child to complete. All children are welcome, but an appointment is necessary. To make one, call 620-382-2858.

 

 

Tabor music faculty to present recital

 

Sheila Litke and Janie Brokenicky, music faculty from Tabor College, will present a recital titled, ?Songs of Seclu?sion: An Afternoon of Art Song and Arias,? at 3 p.m. in the Tabor College Chapel-Auditorium.

The recital will include the works of composers such as Handel, Mozart, Shubert and others.

The concert is free and open to the public.

 

 

HCH Auxiliary plans to meet Feb. 5

 

The quarterly meeting of the Hillsboro Community Hospital Auxiliary/Volunteers group will be at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 5, in the hospital conference room, 701 S. Main St.

The business meeting will include planning for the group?s bake sale fundraiser in late February and a Farmer?s Market meal in the spring.

The auxiliary will again be giving a $500 scholarship to a Hillsboro High School graduate who is pursuing a degree in health care.

Susan Wadkins, Hillsboro EMS representative, will talk about readiness with medical information if EMS is called.

Gail Boaldin, HCH director of nursing, will also talk with the group.
