Weather safety presentation slated

 

A weather safety presentation, ?Storm Fury on the Plains,? is planned for 6:30 p.m. Monday, March 4, at the Marion High School Performing Arts Center.

A meteorologist from the National Weather Service will present the training.

The event is being sponsored by Marion County Emergency Management and the National Weather Service in Wichita.

Quilt club to meet March 4 in Hillsboro

 

The Country Stitchers Quilt Guild will meet at 7 p.m. March 4 at the Hillsboro United Methodist Church, 905 E. D St.

This month?s speaker is Joyce Mitchel of DBarJ Quilts. Her program is ?Do You Square Up?? Guests are welcome.

 

 

Photographer to speak at LL session

 

Harland Schuster, photographer for the ?8 Wonders of Kan?sas Guidebook,? will speak at Lifelong Learning on Friday, March 1, about the adventures he had while traveling across Kansas.

Over a seven-month period, the Morrill farmer-photographer shot 59,000 images, traveled 15,572 miles and spent 18 days of editing. In addition to capturing images of Kansas and its residents, Morrill has documented developments in the state such as the Gray County Wind?project.

Lifelong Learning begins at 9:30 a.m. each Friday in the Wohlge?muth Music Educa?tion Center on the Tabor College campus. Fees are $4 per session or $15 per semester ($29 per couple) payable at the door. Registration allows for a lunch in the cafeteria for a discounted fee after the session.

Legislators coming to Hillsboro March 1

 

The Hillsboro Chamber of Commerce will host a legislative coffee with the two men representing the Hillsboro area in Topeka starting at 10:30 a.m. in the Scout House at Memorial Park.

State Rep. Don Schroeder (R-Hesston), who represents the 74th District in the Kansas House, will be joined by Sen. Jay Emler (R-Lindsborg), who represents the 35th Senate district.

The Chamber will provide coffee and doughnuts.

 

 

TC choir to perform Sunday morning

 

Area residents can enjoy a preview to the Tabor College Concert Choir spring tour with a performance during the morning worship service Sunday, March 3, at First Mennonite Church, 102 S. Ash, Hillsboro.

The spring tour take place March 14-24, with stops planned in Colorado and California.

Director Brad Vogel, professor of choral music, said the concert series is based on the theme, ?The Radiance of His Glory,? based on Hebrews 1:3.

 

Centre to host RECA annual meeting

 

Flint Hills Rural Electric Cooperative Association Inc. will have its 75th annual meeting March 5 in the Centre High School Gymnasium.

The meal starts at 5:30 p.m., entertainment will be provided by the Tallgrass Express String Band at 6:30 p.m., and the meeting will begin at 7 p.m..

The meeting is open to all active members of the Flint Hills Rural Electric Co-op.

 

 

Class for making rain barrels planned

 

A rain barrel and composter class is from 10:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. March 28 at the Marion County Lake Hall.

Lunch will be provided and Cheri Miller, with the Wyandotte County Conservation District, will demonstrate how to make a rain barrel and a composter. Information about rain barrels, composting, storm water, watershed, backyard conservation and native plants will be given to attendees. Door prizes will be given out.

The event is sponsored by Marion County Economic Development, Flint Hills RC&D and the Marion County Extension office.

Marion library?s book club Feb. 27

 

Marion City Library?s monthly book club will meet from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 27.

Anyone interested in hearing about good books and authors or who wants to share with others the books they have read and enjoyed are invited to attend.

Marion library to celebrate Dr. Seuss

 

The Marion City Library will celebrate Dr. Seuss? birthday from 10 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. Saturday, March 2, for children ages 3 to 8 years old.

This will be a special storytime event with crafts and Dr. Seuss snacks.

The event is being sponsored by the Happy Hustler Reading Group and 4-H Club.

 

 

Bowl For Kids? Sake planned March 1

 

The Big Brothers Big Sisters Bowl For Kids? Sake fundraising event begins at 9 p.m. Friday, March 1, and at 1 p.m. Saturday, March 2, at SherBowl Lanes in Marion.
