MCRL drive to aid local food banks

Marion County Relay for Life is sponsoring a canned food drive that will benefit food banks in Goessel, Hills­boro, Marion and Peabody.

Drop-off locations through Aug. 10 are St. Luke Hospital, 535 S. Freeborn, and the following locations in Hillsboro: Fast Realty, 102 S. Main; Hills­boro State Bank, 200 N. Main; Coun­tryside Feed, 101 Santa Fe.

Kansas author

plans Marion visit

Roy Bird, a Kansas author, will be presenting a program at 7 p.m. Aug. 16 at the Marion City Library in the Santa Fe room.

The program will include singing cowboy songs with his guitar, showing slides about cattle from Texas, the Chisholm Trail and how they got to Abilene.

He has authored, “Civil War in Kansas,” and “In His Brother’s Shadow.”

Everyone is welcome to attend.

Board to honor senior musicians

The Senior Citizens of Marion County Board of Direc­tors in planning to honor instrumental musicians at the organization’s annual meeting Oct. 20 at the Marion Senior Center.

The board is seeking nominations of instrumentalists who have played for their own enjoyment, organization, work, school or church; live in Marion County; are at least 60 years of age; and can attend the SCMC annual meeting in October.

Nominations are accepted from family, friends, coworkers and nominee themselves.

Nomina­tion forms are available starting July 8 at local senior centers or through the Marion County Department on Aging.

The forms need to be returned to a local center or the Department on Aging by Aug. 12.
