Board seeks names of older workers

The Senior Citizens of Marion County Board of Direc?tors wants to honor older workers at the organization?s annual meeting Oct. 20 in Marion.

The board is seeking nominations of older workers who meet the following criteria: is at least 70 years of age, is employed for at least 16 hours a week (receives a paycheck), works and lives in Marion County and is willing to attend the annual meeting.

Nominations are accepted from the worker, an employer and other individuals. Nomina?tion forms are available at local senior centers or through the Marion County Department on Aging, 620-382-3580.

Clothing donations sought for kids

Hillsboro Mennonite Breth?ren Church will be hosting a free school clothing giveaway from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 19, at the church, located at 300 Prairie Pointe.

Residents are encouraged to donate nice used clothing for children from kindergarten through high school. Donations can be dropped off at the church between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Vincent to perform Sunday in concert

Stephen Vincent of Hillsboro will perform in concert at 7 p.m. Aug. 7 at the Emmaus Menno?nite Church, 9070 NW Meadow?lark Road, rural Whitewater, KS.

The Emmaus church burned down three years ago and has just opened a new building, including new piano and new organ, Vincent said.

Also playing at the concert is Tabor College freshman trumpeter Matthew Wiebe from Hillsboro and student organist Bethany Franklin from Inman.

Franklin is a junior at Cornerstone Bible Institute in South Dakota.

In addition to performing, Vincent said he just recorded a new CD of organ and piano music, and plans to provide information about that at the concert.

MOPS of Marion plans run Aug. 13

The third annual Mothers of Preschoolers is sponsoring a half-marathon and 5K fun run Aug. 13.

The event is planned at Marion County Lake, four miles southeast of Marion.

The half-marathon and half-marathon relay begins at 6:30 a.m. The fun run begins at 8 a.m.

Awards will be given to the top three times in each race.
