Hamburger fry for Durham Aug. 20

The Durham Activity Association will host a community hamburger fry starting at 6 p.m. Aug. 20 at Durham City Park.

Participants are encouraged to bring lawn chairs.

Champions of

Character Aug. 18

Centre High School invites everyone to its “Back to School Kick-Off Event—Champions of Character” with a hamburger fry starting at 5:30 p.m. Thurs­day, Aug. 18.

The presentation begins at 6:30 p.m. and the coaches meeting is at 7:30 p.m.

A drawing for prizes will be at the end of the gathering for three family season passes to Centre home activities, gift certificates from Al’s, Pizza Hut, Subway, Panda Kit­chen, Barnes Hometown Foods, Carlsons, as well as a donation prize from Tampa State Bank. People must be present to win.

Commodities to

arrive today

Government surplus commodities will arrive at senior centers in Marion County Wednesday, Aug. 17. Each site will distribute them according to their own schedule and may not distribute on the same day.

Those receiving commodities are asked to check with their local site for a distribution schedule.

Lehigh residents pick up commodities at Main Street Ministries, 415 S. Main St., Hillsboro.

If no commodities are left at a site, call the Marion County Department on Aging at 620-382-3580 to find out where commodities are available.

Commodities are available for those who are income eligible and should be picked up from your local distribution site.

To be eligible for commodities, a household’s total monthly income must be below $1,247 for one person; $1,736 for two; $2,184 for three; $2,633 for four; $3,081 for five and for each additional family member add $451.
