Labor Day rally at Lake Perry

ABATE of Kansas, a community-minded motorcycle organization, is having its 37th annual National Labor Day Rally Aug. 31 through Sept. 3.

Organizers said there will be camping areas available, music and bike events all weekend.

Marion library plans reception Aug. 14

The Marion City Library is having a reception to celebrate the Santa Fe Depot’s 100th birthday and the Marion City Library’s 10th birthday, being at the depot, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Aug. 14.

Everyone is invited to visit the Marion City Library for refreshments, look at Santa Fe memorabilia, donated by Mark Hall, see a model train display on loan from Jerry Bruce, view pictures before the renovation and to tour the library.

Hillsboro Rec will meet Aug. 15.

The Hillsboro Recreation Commission has delayed its monthly meeting one week to 7 p.m. Aug. 15 in the council meeting room of city hall.

The meeting is open to the public.

 

Paddle boat races planned for Aug. 11

Marion County Park and Lake is offering paddle boat races at 10 a.m. Aug. 11.

An entry fee of $10 will be due at registration for each boat and each race. One boat can be used in several classifications.

Spring Valley to host music program

The annual Spring Valley Mennonite Church music program will be at 7 p.m. Aug. 12 at Springfield Park, three miles south of U.S. Highway 56 on Kansas Highway 15.

Hearts 4 Him, a group dedicated to missions through gospel music, will sing.

People planning to attend are encouraged to bring chairs. Drinks will be provided.

In case of rain, the event will be at Spring Valley Church, 2896 Frontier Road, Canton, or three miles south and two miles east of Canton.

 

Midnight swim to benefit ministry

The Hillsboro Family Aquatic Center is planning a “Twilight Swim” from 9 p.m. to midnight Friday, Aug. 10.

Admission for this event is a minimum of two non-perishable food items to benefit Main Street Ministries. Pool staff will be donating their time.
