Home Educators plan Aug. 25 picnic

Marion County Home Educa­tors will be having a back-to-school picnic at 6:30 p.m. Satur­day, Aug. 25, in the Hillsboro Memorial Park near the playground.

Drinks and desserts will be provided. Participants are asked to bring table settings for their family and a potluck dish or two.

Goessel fall sports preview Aug. 24

The public is invited to the 19th annual Goessel High School Fall Sports Preview Night Friday, Aug. 24.

The evening will include a hamburger fry, football and volleyball scrimmages, and introductions of all fall sports teams.

The meal will be served from 5:30 p.m. to 6:45 p.m. in the high school cafeteria. Patrons are asked to use the east entrance.

The junior high volleyball scrimmage will be at 5 p.m. with high school volleyball set for 6:30 p.m.

The junior high and high school junior varsity players will scrimmage at 7 p.m. and the high school team will follow at 7:40 p.m.

Donations will be accepted for the meal to support the volleyball and football programs.


Registration begins for youth soccer

MC United Soccer Club is opening registration for its fall season in Marion County.

By registering in fall, youth are entitled to play in both the fall and spring sessions with one fee paid.

Forms are available at both Hillsboro and Marion elementary schools, the Marion Cham­ber of Com­merce office, or by contacting Stephanie Moss at 620-877-7454 or by e-mail at soccerfamily.sm@gmail.com.

The registration deadline is Sept. 6. Practices begin the week of Sept. 10 and games begin Sept. 22. The fees for players this fall are: $40 for pre-K to second grade, and $60 for third grade through 12th grade.


‘The Bible Stands’ focus of hymn sing

The monthly community hymn sing will be at 7 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 26, at the Hillsboro Mennonite Brethren Church, 300 Prairie Pointe.

The evening will include singing, prayer and scripture reading. Those attending will have the opportunity to select favorite hymns.

Steve Vincent will be the leader and the theme will be “The Bible Stands.”


Evening of musical praise set Sept. 9

An evening of musical praise is planned at 7 p.m. Sept. 9 at Hillsboro Mennonite Brethren Church, 300 Prairie Pointe, Hillsboro.

The event will include worship and praise through music with words from Peter, the Rock that Crumbled.

The evening features the Tabor Band performing hymns and accompanying congregational hymn singing.

Other groups include choir with children’s voices, organ music, male chorus, Barbershop Quartet, vocal duet and instrumental solo.

The community is invited to share in this fellowship with ice cream sundaes.


Cowboy poet featured Aug. 30

The Marion Historical Museum is offering a special event at 7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 30, featuring cowboy poet Max Ewert, a 1960 Marion High School graduate.

The event is open to the public and admission is free. Refreshments will follow.
