Wendy?s to support FCCLA project

Wendy?s Restaurant, 812 East D St., Hillsboro, will be donating 20 percent of all sales from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday, April 11, to the Hillsboro High School chapter of Family, Career and Community Leaders of America.

The money will go toward the organization?s participation in the Knowledge Bowl in Califor?nia.

Hillsboro blood drive April 11

The American Red Cross is inviting the public to participate in a blood drive from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. Monday, April 11, at Park?view Mennonite Brethren Church, 610 S. Main.

Donors must be in general good health, weigh at least 110 pounds and be at least 17 years old or 16 with parental-consent form.

The Hillsboro High School Concert Choir has begun selling the new value cards this week.

Cards can be purchased from any choir member for $10 and receives discounts at area businesses.

Free child screening April 12 at Centre

Marion County Early Inter?vention Services will offer a free screening for children birth through 5 years old Tuesday, April 11 at Centre School District 397.

Appointments will be available from 12:30 p.m. to 3 p.m. At the screening, development will be checked in the learning, motor, language and social areas. Vision and hearing will also be screened.

This process usually takes at least one hour for a child to complete. All children are welcome, but an appointment is necessary.

Library to exhibit Peace Corps photos

The Returned Peace Corps Volunteers of South Kansas is exhibiting photographs of their service at the Marion City Library from April 2 to April 16.

The exhibit is to honor the 50th anniversary of the U.S. Peace Corps, 1961 to 2011. The photos are from Kansas Peace Corps Volunteers of their countries of service.

Registration begins for foster parents

Free foster-parent classes be offered soon in the Marion area, according to Anne Auld, community resource specialist with KVC Behaviorial Healthcare Inc.

The Durham All-School Reunion committee is making plans for this year?s event July 16 at the Hillsboro American Legion Post 366.

Goessel FCCLA plans carnival

?

Goessel FCCLA will be hosting a community carnival fundraiser from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. April 16 in the teachers parking lot at the high school.

A wide range of carnival games and activities are planned, including a dunk tank, a cake walk and face painting.

Men?s chorus to present to concerts

?

The Kansas Mennonite Men?s Chorus begins its 43rd season with a concert at 7 p.m. April 10 in Memorial Hall on the campus of Bethel College in North Newton.

The second concert in central Kansas will be at 7 p.m. April 17 in the gymnasium at Buhler High School.

The chorus, directed by Greg Bontrager, has about 300 singers. Bontrager, former director of choral music at Goessel High School, is now choral music director in the Buhler school district. He lives with his family in North Newton.

The mission of the chorus is summed up by its theme, ?We sing that others may live.? An offering is received at each concert with all proceeds donated to Mennonite Central Committee for world relief. In the 42 years of the chorus, $608,432 has been donated to MCC.

Centre FFA plans blood drive April 7

?

Centre FFA is sponsoring a American Red Cross blood drive from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. April 7 in the Centre High School gymnasium. Walk-ins are welcome.

HHS musicians to perform April 11

?

Hillsboro High School will present their ?contest concert? at t p.m. Monday, April 11 in the high school auditorium.

The concert will feature the high school band and choirs performing their contest pieces. Ensembles will also perform.

Singer to perform at Florence church

?

Singer Frankie Valens, known for his songs ?This Magic Moment? and ?Smoke Gets in Your Eyes,? will be performing at 11 a.m. April 10 at Florence United Methodist Church.

A senior citizens brunch will be at 9:30 a.m. April 9 for anyone in the county over 55; worship services at 9:30 a.m. and 11:30 a.m., April 10, followed by senior high pizza with Shepson at 5:30 p.m. and evening service at 7 p.m.

April 11-12, Shepson will have an evening service at 7 p.m.
