School book fair open April 13-20
The Wiebe Media Center library at Hillsboro High School will host its annual Scholastic Spring Book Fair from Friday, April 13, until noon Friday, April 20.
Fair hours are from 7:15 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. daily. The fair will stay open until 6:30 p.m. Wed?nesday, April 18.
The book fair offers a variety of books, posters, activity books, cook books and gift items. Profits from the fair will be used to purchase library materials.

Friday LIR subject will be Zimbabwe
Zimbabwe will be the subject for the Learning in Retirement session planned for Friday, April 13. Bob Priest, Marion, will share stories and photos from his 2011 trip to the African country.
Priest is retired after serving 43 years with the United Methodist Church. He was selected to take part in the trip to Zimbabwe, which supports the greater mission of the United Methodist Church, including the development of the Skills Training Center near Mutare.
Priest grew up in northwest Ohio. He is a graduate of Asbury University in Kentucky and United Theological Seminary in Dayton, Ohio.
He, along with wife Judy, believe in radical hospitality and maintain a home and lifestyle of reaching out to others, especially international college and university students.
They have been active with Volunteers in Missions and are active in the Eastmoor United Methodist Church, Marion.
Learning in Retirement meets at 9:50 a.m. in the lobby of the Wohlgemuth Music Education Center on the Tabor College campus.
Registration for the entire semester is $15 for an individual or $29 per couple. Individual sessions are $4 each. LIR participants can eat lunch in the cafeteria following the program for an additional fee of $4.

Auxiliary will be meeting April 17
The Hillsboro Community Hospital Volunteer/Auxiliary will have its quarterly meeting at 11:45 a.m. Tuesday April 17, at the Hillsboro Senior Center.
The district meeting is planned for May 10 in McPher?son.
HCH group to offer $500 scholarship
The Hillsboro Community Hospital Volunteer/Auxillary is offering a $500 scholarship to a Hillsboro High School senior interested in a health-care field of study.
The scholarship winner should attend a two- or four-year college or nursing program in Kansas, although out-of-state programs are not ruled out.
Applicants will need to fill out an information form, including a list of goals for the next five to 10 years, and must write a 200-300 word essay on why they are choosing a health-care major.
Applications are due April 30 at HCH, 701 S. Main, Hillsboro.
TEEN plans two meetings in April
The Technology Excellence in Education Network will have a special meeting via phone conference at 6 p.m. April 18. The meeting will originate at the USD 410 district office at 418 S. Date, Hillsboro.
TEEN will have its regular meeting at 6 p.m. Wednesday, April 25, at the USD 408 district office at 101 N. Thorp, Marion.

Chat and Dine Club plan April 14 event
The Marion County Park and Lake Chat and Dine Club will hold its first pot luck dinner of the year at 6:30 p.m. Saturday, April 14.
All dinners this year will be on the second Saturday of the month to avoid the many activities that frequently occur on the first weekends.
This month?s potluck will also include an update by Park Superintendent Steve Hudson on activities at the lake.
Everyone is encouraged to come and bring a guest for an evening of food and fellowship.

Berglund recital set for April 15
Vocalist Clarissa Berglund will perform her senior recital at 4 p.m. Sunday, April 15, in the Tabor College Chapel. The public is invited to attend.
Berglund, of Gettysburg, S.D., is a soprano and music education major studying under Holly Swartzendruber. She plans to graduate in May.
She has prepared a diverse program including works by classical composers as well as contemporary and American poets and playwrights.
?These songs were chosen for a number of reasons,? Berglund said. ?The different songs are from a wide range of styles, eras and composers.?
After graduating, Berglund will return in the fall to complete her student teaching requirements. She then plans to teach music and pursue a master?s degree in conducting
Men?s chorus plan April 15 event
Stephen Vincent of Hillsboro will provide musical accompaniment for the Kansas Mennonite Men?s Chorus concert at 7 p.m. April 15 in Memorial Hall, North Newton. Vincent will perform on piano and organ.
The chorus is directed by Greg Bontrager of Buhler. The majority of singers live in Kansas, but the roster involves people from five states and a variety of Mennonite and other denominations. The chorus represents a wide range of ages and occupations.
