TEEN group plans to meet Aug. 20
The Technology Excellence in Education Network, also known as TEEN, is having its regular meeting at 6 p.m.?Wednesday, Aug. 20, at USD 408-Marion.

Old Settler?s Day 5K to help Janzen
A benefit for Steve Janzen of Florence, who is undergoing a clinical trial treatment for pancreatic cancer that is not covered by insurance, will begin at 8 a.m. Sept. 27 at Marion County Park and Lake.
The benefit is in conjunction with the Old Settler?s Day 5K run. Those planning to attend will meet by the lake hall for registration at 7:15 a.m. Pre-registration is also available at the Marion City Building or by emailing Rachel Thalmann at: email@example.com.
The donation is $15 if registered by Sept. 4 and $20 after that date.
Deadline nears to sign up for booth
The Marion Chamber of Commerce is reminding local organizations, businesses and individuals that the deadline for a food booth at this year?s Art in the Park and Craft Show is fast approaching.

Food booths are a good opportunity for fundraising, she said.
Commodities arrive Aug. 13 in county
U.S. Department of Agriculture commodities will arrive at Marion County senior centers Wednesday, Aug. 13.
Each site will distribute commodities according to their own schedule and may not distribute on the same day.
Anyone receiving commodities should check their local site for scheduling. Lehigh residents need to pick up commodities at Main Street Ministries, 415 S. Main St., Hillsboro, and Lincolnville residents need to go to the Marion Senior Center, 309 S. Third St., Marion.
If there are no commodities left at your site, call the Marion County Department on Aging at 620-382-3580 to find out where commodities are available.
Eligibility depends on income and those qualifying can pick up commodities from their local distribution site.
Hearts4Him to sing Aug. 17 at Trinity
Hearts4Him, a men?s ensemble, is performing at 7 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 17, at Trinity Mennonite Church, 211 Elm St., Hillsboro.
Their songs, according to information about the ensemble, are a source of encouragement and inspiration.
Homemade ice cream will be served after the performance and free-will offerings will be accepted.

Deadline for 5K run at Florence Aug. 22
The deadline for Florence?s Labor Day 5K run, one mile fun run and ?My Rump is Sleeping In,? is Aug. 22.
The 5K run, starting at 8 a.m. Monday, Sept. 1, is $17 on or before Aug. 22 and $22 on Aug. 23 until the event.
The one mile fun run begins at 8:45 a.m. Sept 1 and the early bird registration is $12 and after Aug. 23 is $17, which is the same cost for the sleeping in event.
In order to receive a T-shirt, registration must be done on or before Aug. 22.
The 5K run will also be donating part of the proceeds to the Colon Cancer Alliance.
